It has really been a while! I have been really busy, the kind of way where I keep thinking of things I want to do (like write another Soul Food) and just not finding the time, for weeks on end! I am definitely feeling winter taking its grasp on me though, and I'm starting to bed down with cosy recipes and a constant longing for sleep. I have finally had a bit of a break in my schedule which has really become full since the amazing ‘Works in Progress’ show! I haven’t had time to share it with you here, but I hosted a group exhibition of artwork during development in Bristol at the end of September. There were lots of ways to engage with the art, share feedback with the artists and learn about their processes. |

The exhibition was really born out of my own want to share work, but not being at the stage I expected to be with my current body of work. Instead of waiting, I really wanted to get input to help me in the process and thus the ‘Works in Progress’ Exhibition was born. I wanted to share the experience with other creatives, and it was a really helpful and uplifting evening for us. These photos of the event were taken by Joel Hayden, find more here! |

I would really like to do this again, perhaps there will be a series of ‘Works in Progress’ events, I’d like to consider maybe a creative sharing circle too where artists bring a sample of what they’re working on and have an informal critique and collaborative mind mapping session. Playing with exhibition format was really special though, moving away from the expectation of sharing work that is complete and perfected. I love seeing the process of making, so it was a joy to share it and experience it in such broad terms. There was a real diverse range of work and artists involved, giving an insight in to the scope that creativity can have. It is something I am really passionate about, and facilitating the event was really fulfilling. So, if you are in a position where you could help me make this in to more than a standalone event, I would love to hear from you! Any ideas are worth sharing. |

Recommendations I have a lot of other things going on in my life, but I wanted to let the exhibition take centre stage in this one. Here is a quick round up of other things you can check out from me, I will go in to more detail in future editions: I am now tattooing at Picnic Studio in Stokes Croft, Bristol. Check out Imbue Tattoo for more. I am building an online shop, which will have a limited selection of artworks, prints, and handmade Christmas decorations very soon! I have works on display at The Malago restaurant in Bedminster, Bristol until January which are all for sale at affordable prices. The exhibition showcases lots of artists and is curated by Oil & Oak.
To finish, I’ll share a recipe I tried last night which was a bit different to anything I’ve cooked before! Mujaddara is a really comforting lentil and rice based dish with caramelised onions. It's different because I used to think I couldn’t cook good rice, so I was put off doing anything like this, but really I think I just needed to trust myself. I made it with brown rice, which is easier to cook apparently, and my favourite kind to make at home. As per usual, I didn’t really follow the recipe but I did the general thing - I just swapped the greens for some garlicky broccoli on the side. |

If you'd like to show some support, you can use ko-fi. Ko-fi is a platform where you can donate the price of a coffee to support creators. You can give a one-off or a monthly donation. Anything is hugely appreciated and helps me to continue developing my creative practice! |
