July and August NEWSLETTER |

In coloring this vibrant crab (a symbol of my astrological sign, Cancer), it gave me space to slow down. This simple activity reminded me to stay present in the moment and slow the *beep* down... Ask my family -- I'm no good at slowing down or being present. But I will keep reminding myself to do it and why I must do it. And if all else fails, I have a lot more pages of intricate animals to color. Hope to see you out and about, and you'll next hear from me in September! |

Josie and I survived a rainy first day of ArtsAlive, a two-day festival celebrating Juneteenth, Pride and Father's Day. With the help of Miranda from Cape Cod Voices and Allan, a recent graduate of Sturgis, we managed to save my books from getting wet! It was all very exciting... |

Emceed by Tamora Israel, we enjoyed live music by Pink Navel, a special drag performance starring Lavendar, Larissa Montes and Iris Laveau, face painting by Fun Clowns and Company, and photo magic by Magic Mirror! Writing Circle Last Tuesday (and every writing circle), I was reminded about my WHY. Thank you to everyone who has come to write in community over this past year! There will be no August session and a future schedule will be sent out soon. Belonging Books holds space for this low-key, drop-in BIPOC-centered writing circle every month at the Hyannis Public Library. |

Every day, we center and celebrate the voices and stories of people of color and other underrepresented people. July is Disability Pride Month. “A Day with No Words” by Tiffany Hammond is a beautifully illustrated and lyrical book that gives us a look into the experience of a young, nonverbal, autistic child and his family. I chose this book for our Arts & Justice Festival story walk because it centers an often overlooked life experience, celebrates simple pleasures and reminds us there are many different ways to communicate with each other and move through this world. Check out our online store here. |
