Feature PCA Member Team: CHEER Philadelphia |
|
|
CHEER Philadelphia still holds the title as our newest PCA Member Team. Let’s learn more about them! We want to know more about your logo! How did you come up with it? When we were brainstorming what we wanted for the CHEER Philadelphia brand, we knew we wanted something that was going to look very collegiate - something crisp, clean, and most importantly, flattering on anyone. So we started with blue and white for the colors. Then, we realized no other PCA member team had orange in their brand, so we added it in to complete the rainbow! As for the logo, what screams Philadelphia more than the Liberty Bell? Well, and cheesesteaks… So we worked with a graphic designer who created a really sharp image that could be used in tons of different spaces without losing the integrity of the design. How has CHEER Philadelphia found ways to adapt to the virtual world during the pandemic? We did have some in-person choreography practices before it got too chilly in Philly and then decided to transition into virtual practices. We knew Zoom fatigue was going to be a problem, so we switched up what was happening during our weekly practices. One week we would focus on choreography, the next week we would do a team bonding activity, maybe play some virtual games, and we partnered with CNY and CDC to rotate hosting practices for a fresh feel! One of the most fun activities we did - one of our captains sent out a questionnaire to the team with different questions and then created a trivia game for us all to play. It was a really fun way to learn more about our teammates! We were also really proud to have two team members speak at Summit! Currently, we’re running a virtual fundraiser for PRIDE month that is a social media bingo fundraiser! Check out our Instagram to participate as we raise money for our beneficiary this year - William Way LGBT Community Center. Tell us more about your beneficiary! We’d love to! William Way LGBT Community Center seeks to engage and support the diverse LGBTQIA+ communities in the Greater Philadelphia area through arts & culture, empowerment, and community connections. William Way provides volunteer-run programs including counseling, senior programs, Trans programs, a library, archives, and other community-building opportunities. If someone is thinking about joining CHEER Philadelphia, where and when should they start? Now is a great time to start thinking about joining our team! We are really looking forward to returning to in-person practices in the fall with choreography and stunting! We anticipate having some clinics/open gyms in August and then holding tryouts at the end of the month. And how else could someone support CHEER Philadelphia? We are in the process of finding a new space, so if you know any great gyms in Philly that would want to host us - let us know! As always, a donation to CHEER Philadelphia is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Donate on our website, Facebook, or Venmo/PayPal. |
