Through the Lens of My Mother’s Eyes

I see my mother’s eyes thinking deep thoughts with her mind chasing that memory of the past.

I hear my mother’s voice quoting scriptures.

I feel her emotions when she is laughing or hurting.

I taste Louisiana roots in her Soul food southern cooking.

I embrace my mother’s hand that’s as strong as a man but is gentle and meek of a woman.

I love the purity of her soul that runs deep like a river flowing of her childhood stories retold over and over again.

I am her and she is me, I am her daughter I am an extension of who she raised me to be.

I will forever treasure her strength her prayers her quietness her busyness her beauty and most of all her Love.

Her Love is so honest in how she gives love, shares love, and shows her love.

Through the Lens of My Mother’s Eyes I see her for who God created her to be and in His LENS there is perfection of her beauty inside and out wonderfully made.

Like Mother, Like Daughter: When We Can’t Agree to Disagree?

One of the most beautiful relationships is between a mother and a daughter. Most women dream to have a daughter to be their prodigy. The thought of raising a girl means lots of shopping dates, hair and make-up fun days, being caddy, instilling values, and even teaching her how to cook a meal.

However, what if a mother and a daughter do not share a loving connection, due to excessive arguing, or the ups and downs of conflicts too difficult to be solved between the two of them? This is sad but true. The point in question is: Can We Agree to Disagree?

According to Brightside, there are “7 Types of Mother-Daughter Relationships and How Each of Them Influences the Daughter’s Life.”

As we know or at least we hope, the bond between mothers and daughters are generational of wealth. A mother sharing her life experiences with her daughter are droplets of pearls for the daughters of the next generation and so on.

How can a turbulent relationship between a mother and daughter be reconciled? Everyday Feminism has three steps to start the process of healing the wounds of a troubled mother-daughter relationship.

The mother-daughter relationship is the glue to family ties. Resolving any conflict starts with forgiveness, followed by a pocket full of love, and a willing heart ❤️ towards a fresh start over. ❤️

When the Covid-19 Pandemic blindsided my gym workouts, I was able to find refuge in my Peloton subscription. When the Pandemic surfaced in the gyms, I was terminated from 24 Hour Fitness as a Cycle Instructor. I was heartbroken to stop my indoor cycling classes at 24 Hour Fitness. I considered the members of my class as my “Spin Family.” To this day, we reminisce about our class memories. Those classes were good times and a year later, my spin sisters and I still keep in touch.

My hope is to be able to teach indoor cycling classes again and share what I’ve learned from my Peloton workouts with my cycling members. Currently, my gym workouts are at home, through the digital membership led by my favorite Peloton Instructors.

Yes, no pun intended but we all have our favorite Peloton Instructors. The digital membership is $12.99 on the Peloton website. As a member of the Peloton family, the Instructors are empowering and versatile. Being a member and student of Peloton, I am learning different tips for strength training, songs, cardio, yoga, challenging routines, and the list goes on. Peloton Instructors make members feel included, no matter who you are culturally. Honestly, it feels like I have been working out with my family of Peloton Instructors for many years. Their motivation is priceless and In the words of Alex Toussaint.

“Because I said so”

A term used by a mother commanding you to do what you are told and don’t ask questions!

Dress IT Up or Dress IT Down?

You’re in a hurry and can’t find anything to wear! You got your bottom but struggling to find your top?

Grab a dress, style it, and then GO! Easy! Sigh! Breathe!.

What I like about wearing a dress is a dressy or casual appearance.

Cinco de Mayo learn something about the Mexican culture:

The Milagros (also known as an ex-voto or dijes or promesas) are religious folk charms that are traditionally used for healing purposes and as votive offerings in Mexico, the southern United States, other areas of Latin America, and parts of the Iberian peninsula.

Artist Frida Kahlo was considered one of Mexico's greatest artists who began painting mostly self-portraits after she was severely injured in a bus accident. Kahlo later became politically active and married fellow communist artist Diego Rivera in 1929. She exhibited her paintings in Paris and Mexico before her death in 1954.

A Message from the Founder of DoV

This Mother's day I’m grateful, for the mother I have become throughout my motherhood experience. I have raised two incredible sons and I’m so proud of their accomplishments in life. Now as a mother in law, and grandmother of my Lil Miss Camryn, 🌸 I am blessed to share my motherhood with my girls🌸🌸 I am now understanding the precious position of being a matriarch of my family. My hope is to share and build a legacy of family love ❤️ for the next generation of my family.

Lastly, I dedicate the May Newsletter to Marion Kapakoff. My godmother and pen pal since I was eight years old. You taught me the meaning of writing and I treasure every letter you sent me with your artistic letterhead. Because of you I love pretty writing paper and unique pens.

Now through DoV Club my goal is to teach DoV participants writing, how journaling can be fun, and rewarding. Who knows there may be a future author ✍️ from our DoV Participants.
