Voting Committee Member Applications

Our applications for the 2021-22 term are open and we are incredibly excited. There are seven VCM vacancies to be filled. By far, CEYC is the most impactful way youth between the ages of 13 and 23 can take part in municipal government. CEYC has taken steps to address accessibility in the candidate criteria and processing. If you or someone you know would be interested in applying, share the posting below!

Sister Cities of Nashville

& City Hall School

This month we took the time to meet with fellow youth from our city sister Nashville. We hope to set up an experiential program in the coming years, allowing Edmonton youth the chance to explore the Country Music Capital of the world. The executive will also present to nine schools from across Edmonton this month, as part of City Hall School, connecting the dots between municipal government and youth.

Food Waste and Insecurity Information Report

We are researching how gaps in Edmonton food security might be filled with food destined for waste. Currently, we are examining redistribution initiatives around the world, interviewing local organizations, and determining how best to meet the needs of reducing waste. 58% of food produced in Canada is lost. This has enormous economic and environmental costs! We will publish our findings and recommendations as an information report for City Council.

Paths for People Workforce

This Workforce handles all collaboration between the City of Edmonton Youth Council and Paths for People. Besides our response to the Bike Plan Implementation Guide, we are working on a day of programming during the beginning of summer with members of CEYC. This would involve meeting up at a chosen street, learning about safer streets and other initiatives, and adding to the street with things such as chalk. We hope that this will be educational, but also serve as a fun bonding event between our two organizations.

Starting mid-May, the Blog is looking to up our posts to bi-weekly publications. Some articles to keep an eye out for: volunteer opportunities for youth, an opinion piece about online vs. in-person classes, tips on how to live more sustainably and a personal reflection in regards to racial identity. Happy Reading !!

School Visits Initiative

We’ve been hard at work identifying schools and organizations, sending out contact information, and scheduling visits! There have been some barriers with response rates, likely due to the pandemic and the online nature of our presentations, but we’ve been pushing through to reach dedicated schools that are still interested. If you know of a school or organization that could benefit from a CEYC visit, let us know below.
