Mitch LYONS STUDIO

Sweet Tooth

Mitch LOVED donuts!  In fact he probably knew where every Dunkin' Donuts was within a 10 mile radius from the house.  One of his sons once said that if you wanted to catch Mitch, just throw a donut in a room!

Mitch was also an honest man.  One of the first years we went to Florida during the winter, we stayed in a lovely Bed and Breakfast not far from the studio where he went every day to work.  We'd have breakfast together on the balcony first, and then off he'd go to play.

When we finally returned to Pennsylvania, Mitch told me he had a confession to make.  A confession?  Uh oh.  Here it is:  Every day after we had breakfast and he headed out, he came to a junction where there was a Dunkin' Donuts.  And every day he wanted to turn left to go to the studio, but at the last minute, he always turned right and went for a donut!  I thought it was so sweet that he felt he needed to confess to me. Of course, he DID wait until after we left Florida.

So here's something sweet to look forward to in 2021.  Mitch had several recurring themes in his artwork - an empty chair was one of them.  He said that to him it symbolized the solitary life of an artist.  In January I will be showcasing many of his clay monoprints that include an empty chair (or chairs) in them.  Stay tuned!

Delaware Art Museum is scheduled to start up classes again in January 2021. Classes will run for 9 weeks and are limited to only four students.  If you're interested in learning how to clayprint, click here

The studio is open for visitors (masks required). Contact me if you'd like to come by and pick out something for the holiday season or just to spoil yourself --- you deserve it after this year!
