some thoughts for september

helping you be productive and well

My 'some thoughts' is driven by whatever has captured my head and heart most recently. This month I've been focusing my attention on the essential human need for social connection and community. September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day - a day with the intention to educate and provide resources to those who are struggling. Now more than any other time in my adult life I am seeing the urgent need for us to both ask for help and give help to one another. Increasingly more people are being overwhelmed by and struggling with significant daily stressors and feeling anxious, depressed, lonely, and isolated.

If you are concerned about your own wellbeing or that of a friend or loved one please reach out for help. A comprehensive list of crisis hotlines and resources can be found here.

I am honored to be participating in the Milton Mental Wellness Webinar as a panelist on September 10. Register for a Zoom link here or watch the webinar livestream on Facebook. This event is open to anyone and everyone!

Be well. Be safe. Be hopeful.

FEATURED BOOK

I love this book! If you care about our collective wellbeing you will too! Compassionately written by former Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, he makes the case for the physical and emotional toll that loneliness and social isolation and disconnection takes on us as individuals and as a society.

If you prefer podcasts to books, take a listen to his discussion with Brene Brown on her Unlocking Us podcast (link to listen below).

I wrote The Disintegrating Student: Super Smart & Falling Apart to provide an updated roadmap to navigate the daunting journey through today's high-stakes, high-stress achievement culture. My goal is to start conversations between students, parents, educators and other stakeholders to be more astute at recognizing the early signs of struggle and intervene before students fall apart.
