Help Ban Brain-Damaging Chorpyrifos:

It's on Oregon's Fruits, Vegetables & Christmas Trees!

Now is the time to tell Oregon legislators to pass HB 2916-1,

which will ban chlorpyrifos, a pesticide that has been determined

unsafe at any level. Hawaii has banned it, and so will New York State!

"Chlorpyrifos belongs to a family of pesticides similar to a nerve gas developed in Nazi Germany for warfare. Dow Chemical re-purposed it as an insecticide in 1965. These compounds were deliberately engineered to be toxic to the brain and nervous system. Chlorpyrifos impacts human health, particularly a child’s developing brain."

Please send in your comments to these key legislators.

Watch this video for more information, and see this link for talking points
and an email list
for legislators.

Live in the County? Tell County Roads:

Don't Spray Pesticides On My Property!

It's Spring! Time for flowers and pollinators....and toxic yellow-brown swaths

along our county roadways created by weedkillers sprayed from trucks.

Contact Jackson and Josephine County to sign a "no-spray'" agreement!

You'll need to maintain the county right-away area to the county's vegetation standards (and they reserve the right to retake control if standards are not met).

JaCo: Call 541-774-8184

JoCo: Call Public Works, 541-474-5460

Thanks for helping to keep pesticides out of our air, water, and soil!

Grants Pass citizens recently took a Daily Courier poll which showed
overwhelming support to end roadside spraying in Josephine County.

Bugged by Climate Change: Insects in a Changing Climate

Tuesday, May 28, 6pm-7:30pm

Large Meeting Room, Medford Library, 205 S. Central

We know about dwindling snowpacks and polar ice caps, and increasing wildfire risk,
but these aren’t the only climate change consequences. Among the creatures most seriously compromised by current climate trends are our insect friends.
At this
Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) general meeting
we will explore what is happening to insects and why.

Join us for presentations by Kristina Lefever, Pollinator Project Rogue Valley,
Alan Journet,
Southern Oregon Climate Action Now,
and Robert Coffan, Southern Oregon M
onarch Advocates.

Pollinator's Picks:

The Benefits of Clover for Lawns and Soil Ecosystems

This spring, join us in celebrating, propagating, and educating about a misunderstood and beneficial plant: clover!

Clover provides nitrogen for healthy soils, eliminates the need for

synthetic fertilizers, is an important food source for pollinators, resists drought, remains green all year, and attracts microorganisms and earthworms.

What's not to love? Check out this great article from Beyond Pesticides

about the benefits of clover and how adding clover to lawns has great implications for our public spaces!

On the other hand, this important Politico article discusses what glyphosate is doing to our soil -- including microbe ecosystem collapse and a decline of fertility.
