Herbalism Foundations

Course Description:

Herbalism Foundations is an immersive 6-week course designed to introduce foundational principles and practices of western herbalism. In this comprehensive program, students will explore the identification, preparation, and application of our plant allies for holistic health & wellness.. We will address the physical, energetic, and spiritual properties of the plant allies. The course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experiences, empowering participants to cultivate a deeper understanding of herbal remedies and their practical applications in everyday life.

Course Format:

  • Each week will include lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and/or practical demonstrations.
  • Students will get to take home samples of herbs and examples of the herbal preparations made in the class.
  • Students must commit to the entire series, and courses must be taken in order.

Learning Objectives:

Week 1: Introduction to Herbalism (Jan 21)

  • Understand the history, philosophy, and cultural significance of western herbal medicine.
  • Identify the different approaches to herbalism and their relevance today.
  • Explore ethical considerations and safety guidelines in herbal practice.

Week 2: Herbal Actions and Properties (2/4)

  • Examine the diverse therapeutic actions and properties of herbs, such as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and adaptogenic properties.
  • Learn to categorize herbs based on their actions and understand their applications in herbal formulations.

Week 3: Herbal Preparations: Infusions and Tinctures (2/18)

  • Explore various methods of preparing herbal remedies including infusions and tinctures.
  • Gain hands-on experience in creating basic herbal preparations.
  • Understand the appropriate use and storage of different herbal formulations.

Week 4: Herbal Preparations: Oil Infusions and Salves (2/25)

  • Explore various methods of preparing herbal oils and salves.
  • Gain hands-on experience in creating basic herbal preparations.
  • Understand the appropriate use and storage of different herbal formulations.

Week 5: Herbal Formulations and Herbal Remedies for Specific Systems (3/3)

  • Explore how herbs interact with specific body systems, including the respiratory, digestive, and immune systems.
  • Discuss common herbal remedies for addressing ailments within each system.
  • Learn how to develop herbal formulations

Week 6: Holistic Approach to Herbalism (3/10)

  • Discuss the holistic approach to health and wellness through herbal protocols.
  • Explore the integration of mind, body, and spirit in herbal healing practices.
  • Develop a personalized herbal wellness plan for individual health goals.

Cost and Schedule: 

$75 per session, payable as you go or upfront

Students must attend all classes.  Make-up classes are available at the private class rate.
