Happy day, my friends! And Happy December 2nd! Time is flying, and as we step into the last month of 2023, I can't help but reflect on the whirlwind of experiences that have filled this year. It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming the beginning of the year. Have you ever noticed how time seems to drag when we're bored, and yet, it effortlessly slips away when we're having fun? I find myself asking these questions, realizing that I must have been having a ton of FUN this year! As time swiftly carries us into December, let's rewind and relish the vibrant moments that colored our November. WellBeing w/Coach Edna continued its collaboration with Hearts In Mission (HIM), a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a healthy Spirit-Mind-Body. I'm thrilled to share that my commitment to HIM has deepened—I am now serving as the Vice-Chair and Co-Founder on the Board of Directors. In November, HIM organized a heartwarming Thanksgiving lunch at the park, inviting people to join in the feast and Give Thanks! Check out the joyous moments captured in this video. Additionally, we rolled out the monthly HIM Move n’ Groove, where Coach Edna led a delightful session of physical fitness education and exercise routines at the park. The educational portion of the activity went over the human body system components and the three planes of motion. The second part of the activity went over an exercise routine where kids and adults move n’ groove to the music rhythm. On November 11, I participated in Walk for the World, a global walking meditation organized by Joe Dispenza. It was a special experience as my husband joined me in meditation for the first time. This activity also connected over 300 Dallas meditators, reinforcing our shared commitment to elevating human consciousness. Throughout November, Coach Edna shared insights through two blog posts. "Serotonin: The 'Happy' Hormone" explores the significance of serotonin, while "Let’s Give Thanks!" is a heartfelt prose inspired by the Thanksgiving season. Dive into these articles by clicking on the links in the section below. Check out the Latest News below to discover the importance of protein in our diet in an article published by the American Institute for Cancer Research. Also, in the Fitness news we share a study confirming the importance of daily exercise for life expectancy and I give some recommendations. Finally, check the Top Story: Advancement in the Health Coach profession, and the featured online course in which you can explore the mind, human-earth connection, and the climate crisis. Wishing you a joyful December filled with WellBeing and the spirit of the Holidays! Stay tuned for more exciting updates in our next edition. With gratitude, Coach Edna |

Latest News Top Story: Health & Well-being Coaching added to Medicare Telehealth Exciting news! This temporary phase aims to evaluate outcomes, marking a significant step forward for the Health Coach profession. Our commitment to transforming lives through trusting relationships and utmost respect for individual autonomy in advancing health and well-being continues to drive us. Nutrition: Proteins in Plant-Based Diet In this article the American Institute for Cancer Research explains the importance of protein for our bodily function and the intake recommendation with an emphasis in cancer patients. Also, it provides guidance on how to obtain complete protein intake if opting for a plant based diet. Check it out here. Fitness: Increasing Life Expectancy with 22 Minutes MVPA a Day A study involving individual participant data analysis of four prospective cohort studies concluded that sedentary time was associated with higher mortality risk but only in individuals accumulating less than 22 min of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) per day. Higher MVPA levels were associated with lower mortality risk irrespective of the amount of sedentary time. Check the study here. When we multiply these 22 minutes MVPA a day for 7 days a week, it gives a total of 154 minutes per week. This amount of minutes confirms the minimum physical activity recommended by the CDC for the adult population of 150 minutes/week. What I like about the study is the recommendation of 22 min a day. Why? Because for the hard working busy people this amount of daily exercise is achievable when you divide it into two bouts of exercise a day, 12 minutes in the morning and another 12 minutes in the afternoon or evening. I also like that the study states daily because when you start doing an activity daily, with time it becomes a habit, and that is the key to success. So, what does moderate physical activity look like? It can be a 12 minute dancing activity with the kids or partner as you get ready in the morning, brisk walk with a coworker at lunch time, riding the bike in the afternoon with a neighbor, raking the lawn on the weekend, and much more. So, don’t delay and set a goal today to exercise 12 minutes twice a day. It will make a difference to a longer and enjoyable life. "The Mind, The Human-Earth Connection, and the Climate Crisis” online course This Self-Paced Online Course created by the Mind & Life Institute explores the climate crisis through the lens of interconnection. It is structured in four parts, 1) reviews the science behind climate change, 2) explores Earth’s ability to heal and humankind’s ability to change, 3) shows how heartbreak and wonder can catalyze our collective will, and 4) provides actionable steps to effect positive change. The Mind & Life Institute wants this course to be accessible to everyone so we can all have A Future We Can Love, offering a flexible sliding-scale registration.
