Feature ArticleReinfrocers A 'not so science-y' approach to behavior |
Reinforcement is used to motivate individuals to engage in wanted behaviors more frequently. In order to use reinforcement appropriately, preference assessments must be conducted first. One form of a preference assessment is a paired stimulus preference assessment. This preference assessment is quick, convenient, and can be run casually. |
During this assessment the individual at hand is to be presented with two stimuli (i.e bubbles and time on the trampoline). One can ask “which do you want?”, say “pick one”, etc. If the individual consistently chooses bubbles over time on the trampoline, the chances are they would engage in wanted behaviors more often if the consequence was receiving bubbles. Reinforcers are truly deemed as reinforcing only if the individual prefers it. |

Chloe Branch, BCBA Chloe is from New Jersey and has been a BCBA for about a year now. She said her favorite thing about Rainbow ABA is how collaborative the whole team is. She says, "Everyone is more than willing to help when needed and the support received is nothing I've ever experienced before." Her advice to parents is to not forget about self-care! Self-care is extremely important for everyone, whether it be lounging on the couch watching TV, taking a walk, or booking a massage. You deserve it! A fun fact about Chloe is she loves animals. If she didn't purse ABA, she would have been a veterinarian. In her spare time Chloe loves to cook new recipes she finds on Pinterest. |
