Upcoming Events

As you know I love highlighting the accolades and accomplishments of my daughters. Well, I am blessed to have a "bonus son," and now I get to brag on him!

After years of dedication, while simultaneously serving in the Army, Deandre will graduate from Purdue Global University with a bachelor's degree!  I am so proud of his decision to pursue this degree and his commitment to investing the time and energy to achieve this milestone. I will be there to celebrate with him and also have a mini men's golf weekend with my dad, brother and nephew prior (who will also be there to celebrate his graduation).

Congratulations Deandre -- well earned!!

As many of you know my focus over the past couple months has been on my family, and particularly my wife. As we near the end of her treatment and slowly return to a new normal, I want to use this space to say THANK YOU to our family and friends.

To each of you who has prayed, sent letters, visited, called and supported Vambie or me since we began this arduous journey -- with all of my heart, my soul and my spirit ... thank you so much.

There are times in our life where what is desired does not equal reality -- and we must reconcile that in a healthy way. But doing so on an island can be overwhelming, and that is where friends and family enter. And we have to be open to such love and support, otherwise it is ineffective. My wife has named this year one to "refresh and renew" and I am excited for the back half of the year and all that God has in store for us!

BALANCE

Having "life-balance" is often advised -- but one that many struggle to achieve. As a huge proponent of "balance" I wanted to take a few sentences to offer some thoughts to those who may be challenged in this area.

Just in the last month I was talking to my oldest daughter about "successful imbalance" whereby you achieve professional success at the cost of personal time and/or family. High achieving professionals are very familiar with this, but if not aware it can sneak up on you and a decade later when you want to spend time with your spouse or children, relax and take a break it just seems foriegn.

What has been clear to me over the past 6 months is the criticality of a sound foundation predicated on balance. Transitioning from the military, establishing my business, building new relationships and taking care of my family introduced another level that previously I had not dealt with -- but my foundation of mental, emotional and physical balance across personal, professional and family aspects served me very well.  And I encourage you to self-check to assess how well balanced you are.
