Ebbetts Pass Corridor,

COVID-19 and Calaveras County

As we navigate our changing circumstances related to this pandemic, I want to thank the community for coming together to work our way through this. The Office of Emergency Services has opened the emergency operations center staffed by our fire districts, CalFire, Public Health, and County staff. They are dealing with logistics and assistance to the community.

The Public Health Department is taking calls and giving direction on the needs of the individuals who call. We are operating under the direction of our Public Health Officer, Dr. Dean Kelaita.

Under the leadership of the Chief Administrative Officer, Al Alt, we are planning on what services and staffing we will have in the County based on the health care surge and cases in California. Staff is in close contact with the Governor’s office, California Department of Public Health, and the Center for Disease Control.

By now, you have heard that the Calaveras Schools are closed until April 6. It will be re-evaluated at that time.

The guidelines for schools, government, and the public are changing daily; the priority is keeping people healthy. As guidelines change, you will be notified.

Blagen Crossing

Based on discussions with CCWD and other parties, we anticipate construction beginning in September.

Arnold Library

Due to an influx of woodpeckers, the County Facilities staff installed netting. Let us hope it works. If so, I will put it on my house since relocating the birds has not worked.

I would say the mural is in full design mode, but with the schools closing, Artist, Robyn Slakey will work on alternatives. The kids at Hazel Fischer and the home school students were quite involved.

Murphys Creek Project

Additional work will be done in April when the Utica Water and Power shutdown the powerhouse.  We are working with two adjacent private property owners to expand the work on the creek.

Commercial Cannabis Program

We will be discussing amendments to Chapter 17.95 to resolve or mitigate practical problems that were not foreseen at the time of adoption.

Possible revisions to Measure C, which if approved by the Board, will be submitted to the voters.
