Greetings!
I sometimes wonder if every idea, every question, every answer, every thought has already been written about in a book somewhere — even this very question that I sometimes wonder about. Every day books come onto my radar, from classics that I’m just waking up to, to new titles, to something in between.
This may be a slightly defeatist comment for someone who is working on a book of her own, not to mention as someone who spends a lot of time seeking knowledge through live conversations (more on both of those activities, below). And then there is the vast universe of on-line media content bombarding us with ideas.
Yet I often find myself thinking: Books … glorious, books!
In books, ideas are presented, unfurled, sculpted and refined. Notions can sink in. Inky squiggles made up of 26 little letters over and over again (and that’s just in this alphabet!) come together in new ways, like individual birds flocking into unique patterns that reveal a new picture with each pivot.
And so I find a precarious yet joyful balance. On the one hand, I hold firm in the belief that the limits of imagination and knowledge are boundless, and therefore there is so much more to come. On the other hand, I am sure that if I want to know about something today, the answers — insights and information — are available in a book that’s just waiting for me to find it.
With this in mind, I have decided to make this the Season in Book Heaven, during which I will post about books that have inspired thinking on topics that matter to me. The first one is up on the blog now.
As I continue on my journey as a writer and a reader, I’ll do my best to share the pages of wisdom along the way.
Yours in connectedness,
Lorraine
