Chairmans’ Chatter

Well, the winter just won’t let go yet and continues to create havoc with our intended rides!

Wootton has had to be postponed due to the Beast from the East, with conditions totally ridiculous. We are very lucky that we have been able to slot the fixture back in fairly soon, on March 25th, and hope that everyone who was hoping to come along on the 4th will still able to join us. Big thanks must go to Sue Scarborough for all the hard work and stress she has put up with to keep the fixture alive.

Hope everyone is coping with their animals, and the chores that comes with them! The weather does make everything such hard work and everything has been so extreme this time.

A good tip I picked up earlier in the winter was to float a plastic bottle full of salt water in the water trough although I have to say even that has got frozen in the severe conditions we’ve had this week .It does make it much easier to break the ice tho!

If anyone has any other good tips for making life easier it would be great to share!

Here’s hoping that some balmy spring sunshine is just around the corner and we will be out enjoying our rides very soon!

LINDUM GROUP TROPHY WINNERS 2017

SPOT THE DELIBERATE MISTAKE!

Own up! Who spotted the mistake with the last newsletter?

Sheila Smith’s lovely Twywells Jaycee was wrongly labelled as a Fell in the trophy winners photo call…….

Oooops! Sorry! Of course, he is a Dales….and a very nice one at that!

Simeric Sinnaman, or Fendi, is an 11yo pure bred Arab gelding, owned by Bridie Lydon Towle since 2013.

In 2014 he was diagnosed with bilateral bone spavins and it was doubtful that he would ever compete again. However, with time off and careful management Bridie has successfully taken him through the levels .

In July 2017, he achieved Advanced status at The Pilgrims Trail Ride. It was his first 80km GER and he achieved not only a Grade 1, but was also awarded Best Condition.

Darcy

Ballyskeagh Darcy is an 8yo Irish cob, owned by Rebekah Naylor-Hirst since she was 4, and fresh from Ireland after a season’s hunting.

Rebekah began with Muckton fun ride within a month of buying her and Darcy behaved impeccably and the pair were hooked!

Now doing rides around 20kms and hoping to get up to 30kms later this season

Wisespares Tempo, or Temp as he is better known, is owned by Helen Ganney, our trophy secretary who has had him since he was 6. Temp is 20 years old now, and is actually a solid appaloosa, with both parents being full spotties! He has been doing distance for 14 years now and will hopefully notch up his 4000 competitive kilometre this season!

Temp is brilliant in all traffic, not frightened of combines or tankers, and even had a helicopter take off near him and fly low over the top of him with no reaction. However he will jump a mile at a sparrow and is terrified of pigs!
Helen was told that the people that bred him were scrap merchants hence the Wise spares prefix!

Top PBA,

Top Barefoot 2017SP Dakota, aka Cody , an 8yo, owned by Andrea Campbell since he was a skinny 2yo. Has dabbled in show jumping and dressage but came into his own when they discovered Endurance!

Not always the easiest on the ground but excels when ridden.
