The Lens Leadership Newsletter: Take 2. Back in December I thought I would start The Lens Leadership newsletter. I failed. I knew consistency would be critical to make yet ANOTHER newsletter in your inbox have any value to YOU. But I found my perfectionist tendencies creeping in, and I spent entirely too much time attempting to reinvent the template for the next issue! As an entrepreneur and also the product, I just could not spend so many cycles wearing the creative director hat, while my priority is delivering value TO YOU! So, Take 2. I decided to partner with a wonderful creative group to help me build a template and a process, so that I can focus on content – with consistency. I hope there will be something in here for everyone – as I bring you leadership perspectives through blog content, recommended books, audio (playlists and podcasts), quotes, big questions to consider, coach’s challenges, exclusive offers, and even guest content from outstanding leaders worldwide! I welcome your thoughts and ideas for future content in this newsletter at alison@thelensleadership.com, and a great leader once told me, ‘Sharing is Caring’, so feel free to share with others, who can also register for The Lens Leadership newsletter HERE. Last note: On some platforms (such as Gmail on a laptop), the newsletter may cut off. If so, I encourage you to click on 'view the entire message', so you don't miss valuable content! I hope you enjoy it! ~ Alison |

3 years ago, today I had my last chemo. Hard to believe it's been 3 years. No matter how daunting or uncomfortable, we all add on layers of learning as we move through life. If we pay attention, each layer offers new perspective, growth, possibility, connection, and experience that helps us move through the layers to come.

The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger |
What I love most about this memoir from Bob Iger, is through the stories of an extraordinary career, we are treated to multiple relatable examples of clear VISION, DETERMINATION, EMPATHY, and EXECUTION. When I first read this book several years ago, I was truly inspired as I learned about Iger’s leadership through experiences such as the interaction with a family after a terrible accident at Walt Disney World, his relationship with Steve Jobs and the Disney acquisition of Pixar, the acquisitions of Marvel and the Star Wars franchise, and the development of and pivot to the then unheard of Disney+ subscription-based platform.

Shannon, who is a leader you admire and why? I deeply admire Sara Blakely, the visionary behind Spanx. First, she addressed a universal problem for women with her innovative product. Second, she transformed a $5,000 investment & ingenious guerrilla marketing into a billion-dollar brand, relentlessly mobilizing friends & family nationwide. Third, her unwavering self-belief & resilience in the face of naysayers created a market all while building a unique company culture that supports working women. Her generosity in rewarding employees with first-class tickets and $10,000 after the company's $1 billion sale epitomizes her inspiring leadership. She is the leader, founder, and human I strive to emulate in every possible way.

| | What valued leadership lesson would you like to share? If it makes you happy & fulfilled, it doesn't have to make sense to anyone else. It's always wise to seek counsel from a mentor or a person who inspires you. However, it's equally important to remember it is YOUR CALLING. Be true to you and don't be afraid of forging a new path. |

Thank you Shannon for sharing your perspectives! |

Lex Fridman Podcast: #390 – Yuval Noah Harari: Human Nature, Intelligence, Power, and Conspiracies |
I’ll come right out and say that some of you will listen to this, and some won’t – AND, it’s brilliant! It’s a long-format podcast - almost 3 hours – so it took me 2 long hikes to get through - just picture me taking notes during a hike! Yuval Noah Harari is a historian, philosopher and author of one of my favorite non-fiction books, Sapiens, A Brief History of Humankind (amongst other best-selling works). In this episode, Lex Fridman, MIT AI researcher, interviews Harari about a wide range of topics, providing an impressive global perspective and leaving us with an expanded lens on the world we’re living in now, and where we’re headed. I highly recommend and invite anyone who listens to reach out and share what you enjoyed most! |
