A work in progress.

I started my journey toward becoming a professional artist in the second half of 2020 when I retired from my 47-year career in advertising. Since then I've been working on building up my painting inventory and entering juried art exhibitions to help bolster my artist resume. My goal is to get representation with a high-end gallery and eventually have a solo show. Right now, the slow speed at which I paint is my biggest obstacle. As I work on techniques to get paint on the canvas more quickly, I thought I'd send this update with a few exciting developments, including my first museum group show coming up in March.

MUSEUM OPENING

Breaking Through: The Rise of American Women Artists

I'm extremely honored to have my painting, Escape, selected as a finalist in a national juried museum exhibition sponsored by American Women Artists.

If you're in the Nashville area, I'd love to see you at the opening reception on Saturday, March 12 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm  at the Customs House Art Museum in Clarksville, Tennessee. The show runs from March 5 – May 9, 2022.

If you've never been to the Customs House Museum, you're in for a real treat! There are two other exhibitions worth seeing running in conjunction with the AWA show. Rising Voices 2: The Bennett Prize for Women Figurative Realist Painters is a must-see exhibition of some of the top up-and-coming women figurative artists in the country. The other show, Aneka Ingold: Transfiguration, is also outstanding for the conceptual and artistic mastery of her narrative paintings.

HONORABLE MENTION

National Narrative Still Life Competition

The illusion of shame placed in the top ten and received an honorable mention in a national narrative still life  competition sponsored by the Catholic Art Institute in Chicago. Anatomy lesson and Object were also selected as finalists. The caliber of the artists represented in the show is top-notch.
