✌️🇺🇸 If your candidate won, let’s take this moment to use it to build bridges and bring people closer. Here is how you can do it:
🧑🏽⚖️ 😤 Don’t force people to defend their beliefs: When you tell people they are wrong, stupid, immoral or irrational, they simply dig in and get more entrenched in their views.
🔎 ⏳ Provide information, and then people them time: Without demanding anything in return
👉🤥👈 Don’t fight bias with bias: If people are making a completely one-sided argument with selective (or misleading) evidence, don’t retaliate with a similarly biased argument.
👍👎 Don’t force people to choose between their idea and yours: Encourage people to reconsider their perspective without saying that this requires them to adopt yours.
😇 Help people save face: People won’t change their behavior if they can’t find a way to do it without losing face.
🤝 Let people in: If they fear you will punish them the moment they change their mind, they will stick to their guns.

Could ‘Insight Policing’ have saved Sandra Bland, Freddie Gray and others? Meet Megan Price, co-creator of Insight Policing. Insight Policing helps officers recognize and defuse conflict behavior, both their own and the publics. Conflict behavior resembles such stress-based behaviors as fight, flight and freeze; these are the actions people take when they feel threatened. Insight policing gives officers a process to de-escalate, overcome bias, and build trust during encounters. |
