OCTOBER NEWSLETTER

What. A. Term.

I hope, like me, you are using the time to rest and recharge (unless you did that last week instead!). You have certainly earned it.

I have added to my exit ticket collection. New tickets are: equivalent fractions, fractions of amounts, adding and subtracting decimals, short multiplication and division, place value, rounding, directed numbers, estimating and using decimal multipliers with percentages.

I had a great discussion about order of operations/BIDMAS/BODMAS/GEMS or whatever you call it! How do you answer when a student asks "why?"... Join in here.

The significant figures lesson has been updated too. After a really enjoyable lesson with a year 7 class, I have modified the explanation and examples on the PowerPoint.

As well as…

Mixed Attainment Maths

I wrote last time about mixed attainment maths teaching. I'm still using the resources I shared previously and have made a few of my own too.

Truncation

Not sure how I missed this topic before but here's a new lesson for it. Hopefully useful as there doesn't seem to be much content out there yet.

Website of the Month: Maths Genie

I'm using Maths Genie more and more with increased student absences. As with all video and exam question websites, it's excellent for setting home learning tasks without taking too much time away from planning for, and supporting, students that are in school too.

One of my favourite parts is the condensed exam questions - usually on one sheet rather than as a booklet. These are great for schools who are concsious about printing or where students are going to be answering questions in exercise books anyway.

I have linked to the GCSE exam questions page, but there are lots of other resources (including A Level) that are worth having a look at too.
