 REACH Shirati Highlights from the Past Twelve Months!

• OUR 2019 GRADUATING CLASS RANKED number 1 out of 117 schools in the district, and number 12 out of 656 schools in the region!  All of these youngsters are headed for secondary school.

• LAUNCH OF THE GENDER RESPECT PROGRAM - This transformative program offers students between the ages of 10 and 14 an opportunity to gain life-changing knowledge ranging from reproductive health and family planning to women’s rights and gender-based violence.   

• OUR MANY VOLUNTEER PROJECTS THIS SUMMER included: 
  • Two Bay Area public school teachers joined us this summer.  Kesha Jenkins taught reading skills to Tina’s pre-primary students, and Abby Landers taught the scientific method to grades 1 through 7! 
  • Videographer Alex McCoy shot a video about Tina's School, including daily activities and innovative programs. Stay tuned for a showing.
  • Bay Area teen volunteers Imani Clifton and Anieyah Campbell worked on the maternity ward at Shirati Hospital.  
  • Thanks to our collaborations with the UC-Berkeley School of Public Health and the Maastricht University Global Health Programs, we have expanded the Hospital Food Project to serve more meals per week and more nutritious meals, adding more protein and vegetables.

• In November, 2019, Tina’s School Faculty and Staff went on a weekend safari in the Serengeti!  Thanks to two anonymous donors who made this possible – for many of our teachers and staff, it was their first time in the park!
