The Rockwood Center was blessed in 2021, we were able to maintain our doors open through the pandemic. We have been working hard on getting programs up and running for this year. We want to thank each and everyone that was able to help The Rockwood Center through these hard times: Doulas Latina Organization, Centro De Milagros, Jorge Mendez, Monica Flores, MHCC Head Start, Mario Deleon, Addie Boswell, all of our rental clients, and donators. |

“Hello, my name is Avimaela Tello [Avi], I want to take a moment to introduce myself as the current Director and Event Coordinator at The Rockwood Center. I want to thank Pastor Steven Lewis for giving me the opportunity to work in the Rockwood community. Serving the community is a fundamental part of my life as well as working alongside passionate individuals who also care for the community by donating their time and financial support. |

In addition to managing the Rockwood Center, I am a a full time mother of three beautiful children. I love to do DIY projects, and I love creating new food recipes. I have enjoyed working with children in the Rockwood community for many years as a sunday school teacher and a Vacation Bible School volunteer. I recently moved back to Portland after living in Mexico for 5 years. In Mexico I had the opportunity to work with schools in indigenous communities. The school programs I volunteered at are called "Trabajo y Ezfuerzo" and "Telesecundaria San Pedro Chayuco". My team was able to get a grant to build an auditorium for the schools. The auditoriam allowed the children to have an area to hold assemblies and extra curriculum events. It was a great experience to work with these communities, especially with the children. I learned that gathering was an important aspect of the community so my family and I opened the first small cafe in town. The cafe allowed families to gather and enjoy drinks and food together. My hope is that I am able to continue to serve families in the Rockwood community. I am extremely excited to be at the Rockwood Center and I look forward in continuing to develope my knowledge and skills in this nonprofit organization. |

| | Thanks to artist Mario de Leon, who is a mural artist, we were able to accomplish our COMIC BOOK SUPERHERO CAMP in mid-July of 2021. We had about 16 kids that participated. Mario Deleon taught the basics of comic book art and the basics of starting a comic book story. | | |
|
| | We had artist Addie Boswell, who is a mural artist and a book writer, work with women and children of the rockwood community and taught them to make collage art. We are hoping to continue with more art classes during the summer of 2022, with the assistance of artist Mario de Leon, and other artists. | | |

| | REMODELS We are happy to say that we have finished our kitchen remodel. We had a great team working hard to get it ready to become a certified kitchen. We added a grease trap, a two-door commercial stainless steel refrigerator, new flooring, new ceiling, and a 7.5L commercial Kitchen Aid mixer. We are still in the process of obtaining additional appliances to complete the kitchen. Special Thanks to Mike Vest for all of his support and time to get all the pieces in order. | | |

| | We have been working hard in remodeling our North Room men's restroom. We installed new vinal on the countertop and added an automatic touchless soap dispenser. We are still in the process of finishing the remodeling. We plan on painting the walls and installing automatic hand towel dispensers. Our goal this year is also to upgrade all of the soap and towel dispensers in all our restrooms. We want to thank everyone: volunteers, family, and friends that helped in all of the remodelings. Thank You! | | |
