April 2019 NEWSLETTER

Check out what we've been up to!

It's been a while #Wagashilovers...

We've really missed getting this newsletter out to you!!

We've been busy trying new things (like our amazing Anmitsu above!), getting some wonderful feedback from our customers, and managing through some personal challenges. The great news is that we have many exciting things to showcase this year and we're back into the swing of things!

We took all of January off to spend time with our family and experiment. We kicked off the year in February where it all started, at the amazing South Melbourne Night Market! Unfortunately, while we were super keen on showing the great new flavours and products, we were only able to market for one week. More info on that below!

March came around and we were so glad to be back at the Hank Marvin Market - plenty of fun was had with our surprise watermelon nerikiri, and celebrating a birthday with prizes galore using our traditional garapon (Japanese ball lottery machine). We really want to take every opportunity to introduce new experiences to our customers!

Check out some more details below about our range of new, seasonal offerings including Anmitsu, Lychee daifuku and my special Birthday Cake nerikiri... and there will be much more to come!

By the way... we often get asked about how long our products can keep. Our answer is typically 2 days depending on whether fresh fruit is included. Our products are freshly handmade so we recommend enjoying them soon after purchase!

Thank you again for you ongoing interest and support in all things wagashi!

See you soon!

Yours, Minnie

Lunar New Year at South Melbourne Night Market

Our year started strongly with our popular Lunar New Year 2019 Year of the Pig set!

We combine auspicious designs and flavours to help you usher in a year full of health, happiness and good fortune!

Our mikan (orange) design with orange flavoured bean paste and candied orange peel (OMG yummmm!) was of particular interest - especially since some customers thought the nerikiri was damaged. In actual fact, to showcase the inside of the mikan, the design request a small opening as if it was peeled! Good feedback however for next time. ;)

A birthday celebration...

Minnie celebrated her "Don't ask my age" Birthday (at Hank Marvin Market in Brighton) like a true sweets maker: by making her own miniature birthday cakes! But this one was a little different: with handmade chocolate bean paste and homemade orange marmalade.

We also ran a fun special prize draw with our traditional Japanese garapon!

Everyone loved being introduced to this unique part of Japanese culture, with some lucky customers winning free wagashi, tea and two 2 lucky winners of our MinnieSweets Experience Box! See the link below on how the garapon works.

Product spotlight: Anmitsu

Now we're talking... Anmitsu is the incredibly popular dessert that has a bit of all the best flavours and textures of wagashi!

There's kanten, the hero of the dessert, which is a jelly made out of a variety of agar agar (which is super healthy actually!). We include 3 flavours of kanten. We also have: two kinds of mochi, red bean paste (tsubu-an), fresh orange, beans with a special dark sugar syrup.

We had several customers enjoy it right in front of us and their expressions of pure happiness brought joy to our hearts!

Only available in Summer.

Find the yellow watermelon nerikiri!

To bring in more fun, we had another little contest for our first market in March. We had a special watermelon nerikiri (passionfruit flavour actually) but randomly mixed in some yellow watermelons among the red. The only way to find one was to cut into them!  Anyone who found a yellow watermelon won a free item of their choice. We think the thrill of discovering the rare wagashi was just a fun as winning!

Where will we be next?

Check out our website for our next markets and events! Just keep an eye out for our events in April and May... it promises to be an amazing month! We love love LOVE Autumn!
