Hi Wagashilovers!
Work doesn't stop for school holidays! In fact, Sept and Oct were super busy with several amazing markets and some interesting opportunities... An example is in the pic below, where I met with the delightful Mayumi N from SBS Japanese Radio to talk about our story and purpose.

We also had a smashing time at the markets and events we attended. We live for these! In particular, we were pleasantly shocked at the reception we received at one event... see the details below. We were also so proud to place a spotlight on our amazing strawberry farmers after that dreadful case of tampering.
 
Ah Spring... love the return to sunshine, warmer weather and the hayfever :) Actually, being Melbourne, we've had a bit of a cold snap, but it only promises to get better! And you know what that means - more handmade Japanese confectionery for you to enjoy for more hours in the day!
We'll have some amazing seasonal specials and designs coming up so don't miss out.

Strawberry tampering
It was big news that the media sensationalised that impacted the entire strawberry industry. We rely heavily on our country's excellent farming so we wanted to support them in some small way by including the highest quality strawberries we could find. And the response was amazing from our customers, thank you for enjoying our Strawberry Daifuku in droves.Here's the response from our supplier that just makes it all worth it:

Where we've been...

Hank Marvin Market
We love HMM for a couple of reasons: The organiser, Paul W, really takes care of the stallholders; HMM is a very well curated market, with a diverse range of stalls; and it's very well frequented by locals, dog lovers and foodies which creates the most amazing vibe! Apart from the dogs (we do love them though) it fits so perfectly we can't stay away. We're attending a few more times until December so we'd love to see you there!

Dianne Collins Ceramics 
Open Studio 2018
You know, when you're starting a small business, it really helps to form strong relationships and pursue those opportunities - you never know what will eventuate!
Meeting Dianne and having the opportunity to hav a soft launch of our brand last year. We met Dianne's amazing friends and customers which resulted in us landing our first market at South Melbourne! 
We wouldn't miss coming back to do it again this year, and while it was quieter than usual we were pleased we could work with Dianne again and see her work (and pick up a couple of beautiful pieces like the one below!

Glen Waverly Moonlight 
Multicultural Festival
As soon as we were moved to a position in front of the noisy stage we knew it would be a rough night - however it was a different kind of rough! Without a doubt this was the BUSIEST event next to the Box Hill Japan Festival that we've been to. It seems like Glen Waverly folks are #wagashilovers! 
(Check out the queue BEFORE we even opened! That was for our stall! )

We have to pinch ourselves. And while we would have loved to stop and chat a lot more (over the blaring music!) we so appreciated our returning and new customers turning out and trying our handmade sweets. 
The festival itself was about celebrating the start of the Lunar or Full Moon festival with lanterns, music and of course some excellent food. 
A massive thank you to Missy who helped us out on the night, and of course our amazing parents who watched our kids while we're out making wagashi-magic. Thank you and we'll be back soon!

Product spotlight: Yomogi (mugwort) daifuku

Definitely a Spring delicacy!
We grow and carefully prepare our own Yomogi - can't get more organic and farm to plate than that!
Yomogi is incredibly good for you and adds that extra aromatic flavour when infused into our soft mochi. 
Combine that with our Tsubu-an red bean paste and you get flavour, sweetness, and texture... and we don't stop there! We apply a dusting of Kinako (roasted soy bean powder) over the top for that smoky powdery goodness. Mmmmm - don't you want to have one now? Would you share this with your spouse? 
I wouldn't either... Only available in Spring.
