Get lit for the holidays!

Happy Hanukkah, doodle discounts, Christmas cards, and a "lit" couple.

Sunday, November 28, 2021

Hello! Happy first night of Hanukkah to those of you who celebrate. This newsletter will be a bit Hanukkah heavy now that people are starting to get my book, "Hanukkah in Your Hands" in their hands and react to it. The title was originally going to be "Get Lit," so I reused it in today's subject line :).

If you celebrate Christmas, don't worry, I didn't forget you! I'm working on some card concepts (see below) and need your help!

If you're still looking for holiday gifts, I have a 15% discount site-wide with code Friday15 that ends tomorrow. You probably know I have the Hanukkah book, so if you didn't get one, now's a great time! I also offer custom illustrations, cards, and more! See one of my favorite custom illustrations of newlyweds below.

Enjoy!

If you're new to Danielle in Doodles, welcome! I publish this newsletter of my latest doodles and updates most Sundays, and you can see archives here.

Cute cousins reading my book!

I had to start the newsletter with these adorable images. I sent my sisters in LA and Montreal a few books and they have been helping me distribute them to family. To quote Mori, my 5-year-old (or 6?) Montreal cousin in the first picture, "Danielle drawed this!?" It makes me happy that they like it! Maybe they think I'm cool? I hope!

Chefs with the book

Jake Cohen is not in my book this year, but maybe next year?!

Jeffrey Yoskowitz of The Gefilteria has an apple sauce recipe in my book.

My friend Jennifer Hutzel has a latke recipe to my book.

I attended my first Hanukkah event of the season on Monday — a panel about latkes — at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan. Chefs Jake Cohen and Jeffrey Yoskowitz spoke on the panel. I bought Jake Cohen's book, "Jew-ish" and gave him one of mine. Jeffrey and Jen contributed recipes to my book! Get it for a discount with code Friday15.

Hanukkah in Your Hands testimonials (from adults)

Jim and Margaret, my sister's boyfriend's very supportive parents, enjoy their book during the first snow in Toronto. Another miracle of this holiday: That the book made it to them all the way in Canada!

The book has something for everyone! See what people are saying!!

"Beautifully illustrated and well written. Pilaf will definitely be on the menu for the holidays." - Jim and Margaret

"[My friend] got the ebook and loved it so much she bought a menorah and wants to celebrate Hanukkah while she's not even Jewish." - Alice, my co-illustrator

"LOVE this book!!" - Katy

"I love the illustrations, the recipes and how you describe Hanukkah." - Amy

"It was really great. Definitely made me feel warm and festive. Something about the illustration style felt nostalgic to me." - Ben

"My kids are stoked to try the recipes." - Elai

"Thanks to 'Hanukkah in Your Hands' for the reminder on how the prayers start — the same ones I've said 8x a year for 29 years and still need a reminder about." - Kara

This doodle is in my book, too!

Christmas card attempts

I want to make Christmas cards, I'm trying. These are my ideas so far... what do you think? I know these aren't my best work. Good thing we still have about a month til Christmas...

Congratulations Jen and Tejus on an amazing wedding!

My friends Jen and Tejus threw an incredible party last weekend in Pearl River, NY. Their original date was March 2020, so this was long anticipated but worth the wait! Congratulations, guys! And, it didn't make the doodle, but Tejus wore light up shoes! Incredibly lit.

Remember if you want a custom illustration for yourself or as a gift, I have a discount until tomorrow - Friday15.

Thanks for reading! Thanks to many of you who have ordered books, I really appreciate it!! If you have a book, make sure to use it during this next week. It's a really helpful guide and I've been using it myself for the prayers and to remember the dreidel rules.

If you haven't yet, order soon to get the book before Hanukkah ends! Remember code Friday15 to save! Share pictures once you get your orders and tell me what you think.

I might skip the full newsletter next week. Happy holidays!
