2023, August 7...Creative Journal #06
Happy August long weekend everyone!
I want to share what I have been up to. A friend asked me to consider doing a photography project for the 2023 Chilliwack Mural Festival. My analytic brain kicked in and needed time to weigh out what I could offer. After much consideration for art, murals, and festival goers, I noticed my eye was repeatedly drawn to tattoo art. I value the expanse of how others live and love in art, so much so they dedicate their bodies and self-expression through this art form. Tattoos in my perspective could be described as body murals. The art exists through a trusted connection to the artist creating or collaborating on the design. For many, the meaning of each piece lies deeper, where some celebrate milestones, ensure remembrance, and others transform pain to promote healing and self-preservation. So far I have observed joy, peace, reflection, and transformative connection with others through tattooing. Human connection through art is vast, fluid, and essential!
My aim over the last couple months was to build a portfolio that demonstrates my perspective of ink and art. I am proud of the portraits and perspectives I have captured to-date. Now, I am preparing to do more for this collection in collaboration with the Chilliwack Mural Festival.
The Chilliwack Mural Festival main event is happening Saturday, August 12 (11am - 4pm) in Downtown Chilliwack. Lead-up events are also on Thursday, Aug 10 and Friday, August 11.
I will have a tent at the Mill Street vendors area to display many of the portraits and I will be offering portrait sessions all-day, in 15-minute blocks. Clients can expect 2 fully-edited, high-resolution images (emailed to them within 2 weeks), along with a story of the art and artist acknowledgment. The cost is $30. Partial proceeds will be donated to the festival. Please feel free to share this newsletter or my Instagram/Facebook reels of the portraits I have created for my Ink & Art 2023 Collection.
To the models who aided me in building my portfolio (Mariel, Jason, Cass, Margaret, Erin, and Stella). Thank you for allowing me to photograph you and the stunning art work adorned on your body! Margaret's images are here in the newsletter. The remainder are viewable on my socials and website.
