SCROLLERS

The scrollers had a Howling good time in October. The theme was Halloween and Thanksgiving. Therewere several theme patterns for everyone to cut. The new scrollers learned how to modify patterns andwere successful at cutting them. The group discussed the new trend in scrolling word art and how to keepthose pesky inner cutting from breaking off.

We'd like to thank Maggie and Robert for bringing donuts for everyone at the Valley meeting. What ayummy treat. Robert also donated a set of regular and metric allen wrenches to help start a small tool boxfor the club to use. Thank you Robert for your generosity. During the meeting Maggie got a "new to her"scroll saw. WIth a few minor adjustments she's off and running. Dar was able to convert her pin-in to a pin-less machine and she was quickly cutting fretwork. Kym cut several patterns and gets better each time. Wehad two Krista's join us and they want to learn more. Thank you Dave for helping with the machine set ups.

The Anchorage club will meet on Saturday, November 19th. The theme will be Christmas. The Valley groupwill not be meeting in November and December due to the holidays. We will begin again on Saturday,January 28th. The theme will be Valentines.

Hope to see everyone at both meetings. Happy Scrolling!

Happy Scrolling,

Ray Reynolds, President

Wood Carvers

Happy November to all carvers and woodworkers. For October we had a successfulwood carving seminar. Thanks to the Anchorage Baptist Temple for the use of theirfacilities for this years program. There were many excited students and dedicatedinstructors. Cindy made sure we were all fed and her egg salad sandwiches were abig hit as usual.

We are entering into winter mode which means that carving should be an activity weall turn to when weather keeps us indoors. I know I have lots of unfinished piecesthat I will be working to finish. Some for presents. Remember that we meet secondand fourth Saturday at 10:00 at AIH next to Duluth trading. These are times where you can start a new project or bring one that needs work. There is always expertisethere to offer advice and assistance. At a minimum you can catch up on all thewoodworking and carving news. See you on November 12 for our next session.

A Note from Cindy

Hi everyone .....

Just want to remind you that the Last Frontier Carving Club is up and running. The next meeting will be on November 12 at the AIH Store on Old Seward and Dimond starting at 10am. Last week I was really surprised when 4 people ran into me and asked about the Club. They must be like me and not read the Wood Chip. It's time to get out of the house and enjoy life again.

One thing that just came up yesterday was an email from a 6th grader asking for help on a carving project. I need someone to take over and help him out. He wants to carve a bear for a school project. Any takers???? He can't come to our meeting on the 12th but if we meet on the 26, Sam will be there.

See you on Saturday, coffee will be on!!
