I Miss You! Come back!

But Not Yet...

... It's not that simple. After a week of feeling myself wade through murky waters since Governor McMaster announced that Massage could legally reopen tomorrow, Monday May 18th I have decided I will NOT be opening tomorrow.

I do not make this decision lightly. I make it with you, your loved ones, your community, my community, and those most vulnerable among us in mind. As a Healer I hold the tenet of Do No Harm sacred. I seek to support health and to minimize the possibility of causing harm. And I am not yet convinced that my reopening would be in alignment with this tenet.

I am reevaluating every day but suspect that I will wait until at least June 1st, as many others in my profession are choosing to do. And in the meantime I am researching best practices and ordering the PPE and other equipment to help make my practice as safe as possible.

So, no, I will NOT be opening this Monday, May 18th, but I am taking the steps towards being ready to open and am hopeful I can open sometime in June.

In the mean time check out some Self Massage videos and let me know what other videos you want!

What does it mean to be COVID Ready?

I care deeply about your well being, the well being of your families, your communities, my community, and those most vulnerable among us. I know there is always risk, and I do not see this concern for everyone's well being as being one of fear, but being one of Care and Love.

I want to know, as a healthcare professional, that I am doing all I can to reduce the risk to myself and others of contracting this potentially lethal virus. I want to know that if I get a call from a client saying they tested positive for COVID-19 that I will be able to live with myself because I feel I did the very best I could to not be the cause of infection and to not be a vector of transmission to other clients.

I want to know that I can and will turn on a dime if there is a COVID positive case in my practice and close my doors for two weeks and call all clients I've seen in the last two weeks to let them know as a precaution that they may want to self isolate. And I want to be able to say with a clear conscious and a degree of confidence that, "the chances you are infected are low because we took all possible precautions."

To be able to do that I have been reading best practice guidelines from ABMP (Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals), AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association), CDC, and OSHA.

I have taken an online continuing education course on Going Back To Practice, and am consulting with other massage therapists, locally and further afield to see what they are doing. There is no black and white set of guidelines that are guaranteed to keep us safe but I am seeing best practice guidelines converge on many points for best risk minimization and I want to do my best to follow those conservative, precautionary best practice guidelines.

These include that both you and I wear a mask for the duration of your visit. It also includes that you be willing to have your temperature checked with an infrared thermometer upon arrival and wash your hands upon arrival and before leaving. I will sanitize all surfaces with appropriate cleaners and use them as directed, which means allowing them to fully dry for 5 to 10 minutes. It also means I will minimize clutter in my treatment room and wherever possible use non porous furniture and decor that can be easily disinfected.

My hope is that in the long run you will also appreciate the care I have shown for your safety and well being and that will be worth the wait of me not reopening tomorrow.
