Pesticides Discovered in Organic Products

ALERT!
Thanks to an organic grower's independent test and complaint,

the Oregon Department of Agriculture has found that neem oil products

from six manufacturers, approved for organic use, have tested positive for
toxic pesticides.

The department's investigation found that Malathion, Chlorpyrifos and Permethrin were hidden ingredients in these "organic" insecticides on the shelves of Oregon stores. ODA has issued stop sale, use, and removal orders for the products.
Please share this information with other growers!

Pollinators' Pick:

Give Your Yard Back to Nature

Are you looking to get a new patch of your yard converted to a pollinator garden?

This excellent Popular Mechanics article offers wise insight about plant choice strategy to develop your yard as an ecosystem rather than just planting for aesthetics.

Gaining knowledge on your local plants and native soil will help you create an environment that thrives with nature rather than against it,

saving water, fertilizer, and a great deal of human labor.

And, check out this blog from Aimee Code of The Xerces Society about pesticide-free gardening, deterring ants from entering your home, and planning plantings.
"Once I’ve gotten through my garden projects, I love to sit back and observe the diversity of critters that enjoy my yard."

Are You on the No-Spray Lists?

Pollinator Project Rogue Valley continues to monitor and publicize maps of Jackson County Vector Control District's mosquito control treatments.

The adulticide used most often is deltamithrin, an insecticide toxic to bees and aquatic life, and also a hormone-disrupter for humans.  JCVCD also uses larvicides, which is the better choice, usually Natular.
Information about these products can be found
here.

Please encourage your friends and neighbors to get on JCVCD's no-spray list!
~~~~
If you live on a county road, chances are your road is being sprayed with
glyphosate and other toxic pesticides!
If you are willing and able to manage your road frontage, please ask
Jackson and Josephine Counties to add you to their no-spray list.
See contact info below, along with a picture of a sprayed and scraped roadside. (thanks to Wanda Borland for the picture)
