MYAN WA visits Katanning
On the 24th of January, the MYAN WA team took their Culturally Informed Approach (CIA) training to Katanning! The training was attended by regional service providers from across the community sector including mental health, WA Police, counselling, TAFE, local government agencies and community arts, as well as young people themselves. This training enabled valuable and courageous conversations to take place and provided participants with effective and practical strategies to engage culturally diverse young people. MYAN WA offers a range of bespoke training packages for organisations, services and community networks. All of the training sessions are designed to be highly interactive and are co-facilitated by young leaders from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Can you offer work experience or paid work to an asylum seeker?

MercyCare is looking to form alliances and partnerships with organisations and individuals in Perth and wider WA who are willing to give people seeking asylum, opportunities to gain valuable work experience and paid work. These people are not eligible for Centrelink support and face considerable barriers in finding work, including limited local networks and a lack of referees. Often their skills are not instantly transferable to their new country without extra expense or study. MercyCare is keen to connect with anyone who is able and willing to assist by offering unpaid work experience or paid work positions, casual or ongoing. If you are interested in finding out more please contact Teri O'Toole, MercyCare on totoole@mercycare.com.au.

Opportunity for young people with experience of adoption

The Commissioner for Children and Young People (CCYP) is keen to hear from young people between the ages of 12 and 25 years who have been adopted in Western Australia. CCYP are inviting young people to have their say about their experience of being in an adopted family and their views on adoption, the adoption system or services. They're interested in how young people have had a say in decisions made about them, and their opinions on some of the recommendations of the recent review of the adoption law in WA. All participants will receive a $30 Coles voucher for their time and effort.
