We are genuinely pleased to have Dr Jo Coombe of Dairy Australia join our speaker programme, bringing us an insightful overview of cross breeding in Australia. In 2015, Dairy Australia funded a two-year research project which looked at: - How many farmers were crossbreeding, including those using a 3-breed rotational system.
- Data on production, cell count, reproduction and survival, which were used to answer the question: What is the best option after the first cross?
- Farmers’ attitudes towards crossbreeding (through a survey)
- An economic model to compare the performance of a purebred herd with a 2-breed or 3-breed crossbreeding herd.
Be sure to book your place so you can hear Dr Coombe's findings. |

Beachside sunset Our full tour begins at the dynamic beachside suburb of Glenelg in Adelaide, South Australia. Glenelg is a hub for seaside holidays as it has beachfront accommodation, a generous number of dining options, and a lovely shopping precinct in its main street. Sunset at Glenelg is often celebrated by locals and visitors alike for its glorious colours. Treat yourself to an evening walk on the beach as the sun goes down. |

Donovans Dairying Not far from our main conference venue near Mount Gambier is the astonishing dairy operation of James and Robyn Mann, which features 17 centre pivot irrigators watering 1,900 acres (770 hectares). Their 116 stand rotary dairy platform is believed to be the largest in the southern hemisphere, and it milks around 2,200 cows each year. We can't promise you that you will see many red cows on this farm but James, who is a Director of Dairy Australia, has dabbled in cross breeding with reds and you may find his views on this relevant. We can guarantee that you will come away from this amazing property and its dynamic owners having learned something new, and the art of staying focused on goals. | | |
