LAOH Denver Newsletter

July 2020

Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians | Denver Division | Founded 2000

A Message From Our President

Sisters,

I hope you are well in these trying times. I find myself missing our monthly Division meetings, our camaraderie and our shared faith and spirituality. Your smiles, laughter, kindness, and generosity echo in my heart, tiding me over until we’re able to meet in person again.

In an effort to keep us all informed and up to date, we will be sending out this monthly newsletter to our members, near and far. I hope this will make us all feel a little closer to each other.  It will include links to our website, social media and other sites for easier access. Please feel free to send any personal, family or community updates or photos to Nan Alonso at nanalonso05@gmail.com for our next monthly newsletter in August no later than July 25. Baby, hobby, family and past Ireland travel pictures are always welcome!

The last day of the virtual LAOH National Convention is taking place today.  Our Denver delegates will update us all at our next virtual meeting or in our next newsletter on what was discussed during each of their committee meetings.

Lastly, our cocktail hours will be every other Wednesday beginning tonight, July 1st for those of you who would like to join in.  If you can't make it, send us a picture and a quick blurb to let us know what you are up to and we will put it in the next newsletter.  Don't forget to join our first monthly cocktail hour TONIGHT @ 5:00pm MT.  You should have all received an email from me with the link to Zoom. Feel free to join in later if needed. (Unfortunately, I am out of town on vacation and cannot join July 1st ... but YOU can!)

P.S. Your Board is evaluating the possibility of holding our Annual Louise Donovan Hibernian Family Picnic in August, if we think we can do so while practicing social distancing and following recommended COVID-19 prevention protocols. We will monitor the pandemic situation and keep you informed as we get closer to the August 23rd date. Stay safe and God Bless.

Peace and Good,

Sheila McGinley Thunboe

 HISTORY CORNER

The famous poem, Mise Éire,

(meaning: I am Ireland) by Padraig Pearse was published in 1912.

Let's all practice our phrases and hopefully we will be able to introduce ourselves and say Hello to each other in Irish at our next meeting!

Sláinte mhaith! (Good Health!)

TRIVIA NIGHT UPDATE!

Unfortunately, we have determined that we will not be able to host our usual fall Trivia Night Fundraiser this year.  We are looking at other options to raise funds for to support our monthly charities. Perhaps a virtual fundraiser? Possible 5K?

Stay tuned for fundraising updates and other LAOH upcoming events. Check our Facebook page or our LAOH Denver Website for current news and updates.

NEWS YOU CAN USE!
