A Debut Author's "What?" Interaction of the Month |

Publishing a book has brought funny interactions with family, friends, my publisher, and complete strangers. Each newsletter, I'll share one with you—for levity. In August, I received my "Editor's Letter" which described the overall work needed for Ghost Train, along with the first round of edits: roughly 13,000 markings out of the 110,000-word manuscript. After getting through those (a slog!), I felt accomplished and happily turned them back in—and then asked about "next steps." My Editor kindly wrote back: "Oh, we will be doing this for a few more months." Ladies and gentlemen, six months later, the eleventh and final round of edits have been turned in and the manuscript has been finalized. Hurray! |

Max & Nat's Nit-Picks: Each Newsletter, we will feature a commonly misused word or expression and share its appropriate use. These words and expressions are inspired by real-life encounters we have had and that haunt us.
"I am chomping at the bit to get started." NO! "Chomping" refers strictly to chewing. It's a messy, food-related word that is regularly misused or misheard. The real word is "champing," referring to a horse that is tugging on its bit and reign, ready and eager to race. "I am champing at the bit to finish this project." Disclaimer: Please excuse any typos, misspellings, or grammatical errors; we understand that we avail ourselves to Muphry's Law when we nit-pick. |

Media Memory: Ten years ago (I can't believe it either), I was working in Tokyo as a marketer at an upscale restaurant. Part of my job was capturing photos. Walk down memory lane with me!
