MASC and Washington County Association of Student Councils (WCASC) are excited to be welcoming you to the 2023 MASC Convention on March 22-24 at the Princess Royale Oceanfront Resort in Ocean City!

 

Please read and share the information below with the attending Advisors and Delegates.

Important Advisor Responsibilities Wednesday

On-Site Check-In

 

• The school advisor and a student delegation leader from each school goes into the lobby area to check-in.

• Students on the bus unload luggage and check the bus for items on seats, under seats, and in overhead storage. Students will be escorted to their region room - Be sure to bring the advisor and delegation leader's luggage!

• At check-in, the advisor/delegation leader will turn in registration confirmation, emergency forms (including forms for advisors), delegate contracts, and pick up hotel keys.

• The nurse will be in the check-in area - please turn in any special medical forms/medicines that delegates may have brought.

• Students on the bus will be escorted to their region room to wait for their advisors. They will get additional information there.

• Advisors/delegation leaders will then go to their assigned region room to distribute hotel keys, convention bags, and any other materials.

 

• REGIONAL ADVISORS (or the regional advisor representative): pick up your folder from Ms. Moodie or Mrs. Crawford in the check-in area.

After On-Site Check-In


• Students/advisors may settle

in their rooms and explore - please stay away from the lobby and on-site check-in areas.

• Officer candidates turn in all required materials to Ms. Moodie or Mrs. Crawford in the lobby area. Campaigning will not begin until after all candidates have checked in. Posters may be hung in designated areas (painters tape only) at the beginning of recreation on Wednesday evening.
• Settle in! Scan the QR code and put the Convention App on your home screen. Review the agenda, and get to know the layout of the hotel center.

• Between 4:30-6:30 p.m., eat dinner in the Atrium located on the second floor

• Between 6:00-6:30 p.m., all workshop presenters should check-in at the MASC Information Center. After that, they can begin setting up if they are assigned to teach a workshop during session 1.

• 6:10-6:25 p.m. - regional advisors and regional presidents meet (see the Convention App for locations)

• 6:25-6:45 - Candidates and campaign staff meet (see the Convention App for location)

• 6: 50-7:40 p.m. - Workshop Session 1 (letter on name tag - locations in the Convention App)

• 7:50-8:30 p.m. - Orientation in your region room. Regions are escorted to the first general session after orientation.

MASC has a great convention app and you can get a sneak preview. Although it is still under construction (being updated), you can still start exploring. Bear in mind that some information is not current (just a placeholder for final updates), but we think you will love it!

ON WEDNESDAY

SHOW YOUR SCHOOL & REGION SPIRIT

 

MASC encourages schools and /or regions to wear their school or region shirts to the convention on Wednesday. Of course, you can also wear your MASC spirit wear, too!

 

All attendees will receive a convention shirt - Please wear it on Friday! You'll also receive a Maryland Leadership Workshops (MLW) cinch bag and other goodies!

SHARE YOUR TALENT

 

Share your special talent! Bring your guitar or dance shoes! The top three contestants will perform during the Awards Program (two-minute performance limit).

 

Students wishing to participate in the Talent Show on Wednesday evening during recreation should sign up at the Information Center after they have dropped off luggage in their room. We are asking that no more than two students per region sign-up so all regions have an opportunity – sorry, we have limited time!

 

Please keep in mind your act should be PG (meaning permissible for all audiences!).

Advisor Stuff

All advisors will be meeting in Palmetto 1 during the Wednesday evening recreation time. (Note: regional advisors or their on-site representative meet earlier at 6:10 p.m., in Palmetto 1).

Chaperone assignments were assigned bearing in mind that advisors would rotate out for the advisor meeting. Regional advisors are welcome to attend the evening meeting if their chaperone area is covered.

 

Chaperone duties for other times can be found in the MASC Convention app!

 

Important note to advisors: NIGHT HALL DUTY is VERY important. MASC asks that schools and regions work together to ensure that at least one advisor is in each hall after “lights out” until ALL rooms are quiet. Regional advisors could work out a schedule to share this responsibility each night. Please stress to students that there are other guests in the hotel.

This year’s Advisor Hospitality Suite is dedicated in memory of Nora Murray.  The North Hagerstown High School Hospitality and Tourism Management Program has created a space to celebrate Nora’s passions and honor her memory!

Friday Morning Check-out: Important Information

On Friday morning, some regions will eat breakfast, then do a room check and others will do room checks, then eat breakfast. Your group will be on your name tag.

 

Preparing your room for checkout:

• Nothing should be left on the floor - trash should be in trash cans.

• Bath towels should be left in a pile on the floor in a corner of the bathroom.

• Check for shampoo, toiletry articles, etc., in the bathroom.

• Check all drawers and under beds.

• CHECK FOR CELL PHONE CHARGERS - OTHER CHARGERS!!

• Put your luggage outside your door (do not block the hall).

• Ask your assigned advisor to check your room.

• Leave the housekeeping tip - recommended $5.00 per student in the room (so usually $20 total)

• Turn in your room key and your name badge (please take out the paper insert).

• Do not leave the room until the room is cleared!!

• Take your luggage to your region's assigned location.

• Report to the Exhibit Hall no later than 9:05 a.m. for attendance and the start of the last General Session. (Sit near your regional sign to make dismissal by region more orderly.)

Advisors: Turn in room keys, badges, and other collected items at the MASC Information Center. Please, please, please, wrap the name badge strings as shown in the illustration to the right.

• At the close of the general session, regions will be called to pick up their luggage and board buses.

• At least one advisor should do a careful check of the region luggage room for any items left.
