Stream Treatment Information

Stone toe protection is a method using stone and/or riprap to armor portions of a streambank that receive high levels of erosive flow. Areas of a stream that benefit from stone toe protection are the outside of bends and areas where stone is needed to prevent the streambank from collapsing. The stone extends below the bottom of the creek channel to prevent undercutting and is placed up to the bank-full elevation of the stream.
