CHAPTER 34 is an independent bookshop in the heart of Shoreham-By-Sea on the south coast. We are here for everyone and anyone that loves to read and will encourage you to be open minded in your book choices.

Every aspect of CHAPTER 34 is designed to help you discover new books, ideas, and encourage you to look beyond what you usually read. Our shelves will be arranged according to themes like ‘Self Shelf’ and ‘Wanderlust’, so you can discover new stories, ideas and wonders.

We stock books covering a huge variety of subjects alongside new releases and prize winners from this year’s awards. We won’t be leaving the children out, you will find a corner bookshelf called ‘mini minds’, devoted to their huge imaginations.

Chapter 34 stands against racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and the oppression of all marginalised communities. We do this by carrying and promoting books by a diverse range of authors, over a diverse range of subjects.

Coffee

There is a relaxing space at the back of the bookshop away from it all.

You can sit, buy a book, chat, peruse your new purchases, and of course enjoy a tea or coffee.

We have collaborated with local coffee gurus Small Batch Coffee our very special blend; ‘paperback’! We will have bags available so you can always take some home.

upcoming Events

Above Chapter 34 we have our very own events space available to hire. The space can be used for yoga, pilates and creative workshops such as writing groups, art classes and creative activities.

We welcome local book clubs and will be running our own monthly book group in 2024 where you can come along to talk about all things books, enjoy a drink and meet like minded people.

We have 3 x 6 foot trestle tables and 30 x folding chairs. The space has heating and vinyl flooring with space for 8/9 yoga mats.

It’s the second Thursday of the month which means it’s book club night at the shop. Tonight @evieoglethorpe and the group will be discussing Somebody’s Daughter by Ashley C Ford. A memoir looking back at Ashley’s childhood, her trauma and her discovery of the crime her incaserated father committed.

2️⃣ TWO FOR TUESDAY 2️⃣

This week it just had to be two by @erickawaller1 🥰

I loved Dog Days and since reading it have had the joy of getting to know Ericka, hanging out in her kitchen and eating lots of cheese on toast, cake and crumble! She is the greatest soul and I was so excited to read Goodbye Birdie Greenwing last year. I instantly fell in love with it. Last week was publication for Birdie and I just want to shove this book in to everyone’s hands and say READ IT! You will laugh and you will cry 🥹 The reviews are all excellent - check out Goodreads, don’t just take my word for it!

Tomorrow night we are heading to @chapter34books in Shoreham to hear Ericka talk to @franquinn21 about their writing processes. As I loved That Bonesetter Woman as well it’s going to be a great night. If you’re local and want to join us do make sure you have a ticket (can buy via the bookshop’s website).
