The Reality of Injury Prevention

An Article on Cushioning our Expectations

Hey There!

I hope you're enjoying the first quarter of our year. It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that the first day of spring is less than a month away!

Time passes by quickly when you're busy, and I have been busy putting the finishing touches on my upcoming online course about injury prevention training. This course includes many lesson modules that begin with brief articles about topics related to injury prevention. Today's newsletter's featured article is from one of those lessons.

Recap on the Course Details

If you've had any interactions with me over the past 6 months, you'll probably be familiar with this project I have been working on. But if you're not in the know, the jist of it is that I have created an online course focused on preventing injuries during physical activity and daily life.

This course includes what I believe to be the 3 main ingredients of injury prevention: mobility development (functional flexibility and strengthening) exercises; proprioception (balance) training; and building the foundational skills of Ukemi (breakfalls and rolling).

A Progressional "Phase-Based" Program

One of the key characteristics of this course is that it's designed to be a progressional phase-based program. This means that the breakfall and rolling skills are taught from a very basic and accessible-to-everyone variation, and progresses throughout the course to build up to more challenging variations culminating in breakfalls and rolls from standing.

This course structure means that anyone can take their time and progress based on when their bodies are ready to move on. There's no need to complete all of the progressions to benefit from the program, the key is to learn and acquire tools to empower your ability to influence your well-being and confidence, and build a routine that works for your own daily life.

News About the Course Platform

I have decided to host this course on the Kajabi platform. Out of all of the options, I believe that Kajabi offers the best user experience. The course can be delivered via an app as well, so it's very accessible.

News About the Access Options

Although I do not have a release date ready yet, there will be a few options to gain access to the program. There will be a monthly subscription that grants you full access, and there will be an option to purchase the program outright and have permanent access.

This course is not just a "one and done" situation. My approach on injury prevention is ever-growing and has always been a facet of my life's work; I will continue to add to this program and optimize the structure and delivery of information as I go on. Anyone with access to the course will receive these updates at no extra cost as they are implemented.

Release Date

I don't want to announce a release date until everything is completed and I have a few people sample the program. When you hear a date from me, you can rest assured that the course is polished, tested, and ready to go.

At the moment, it's very close to being done. All instructional videos have been uploaded into the course, and I am just writing out the last few of the lessons. These lessons come in the form of articles as previously mentioned, and I'll be sharing some of these over the next few months as we anticipate the release of this course.

Here is one of these articles in today's newsletter:

Article: The Reality of Injury Prevention

Misconceptions About Becoming Invulnerable

Injury Prevention involves the practice and progression of exercises and skills that help reduce our risk of injury during physical activity and daily life in general. This involves strengthening our joints, improving flexibility, coordination, balance, and refining our safe-falling skills.

Learning breakfalls and rolls, developing strong and flexible muscles, resilient joints and good balance is a very empowering way to build your body. There are, however, many common misconceptions about injury prevention that may actually increase our risk of injuries. Most of these self-destructive misconceptions involve an overestimation of our capabilities, and thus, a disconnection from reality.

What exactly are these misconceptions? What makes us fall into that mindset? How can we avoid these pitfalls? How can we cultivate our mentality alongside our body and ability? How can we develop a balance of confidence in our movement and respect for potential risks of injury?

These are the questions that we explore in today's article, a lesson taken directly from the upcoming injury prevention course.
