ʻAha ʻŌpio Seminar: “The Best Way to Predict the Future is to Create it.” On Sat., March 4, 2023, E Ala E Hawaiian Cultural Center conducted its 2nd Annual ʻAha ʻŌpio (Young Adult) Seminar for college haumana (students). We focused on teaching students how to successfully transition from college to the workplace and shared mana`o (ideas) about how to “Build Their Best Future!” Mahalo to Nakupuna Companies, Nestlé USA, and Baker Publishing for helping sponsor our seminar. Of course, no Hawaiian gathering is complete without kau kau (food), so mahalo nui loa to Aloha Crew and Uncle Warren for making ono (delicious) plate lunches for us! |

American, George Washington, and Georgetown University: Annual Lū`au E Ala E Hawaiian Cultural Center was so fortunate to again help sponsor the annual lū`au for the above universities! We were all touched to see the respective Hawai`i Clubs honor Hawaiian history and culture (hula, music, `ōlelo Hawai`i [Hawaiian language], and kau kau [food]) as well as other cultures of the people of Hawai`i. Great to see the haumana (students) of all campuses share hula with the audience! And a humble mahalo to Georgetown for dedicating their final hula, E Ala E, to us! |

USCGA Asian Pacific American Council: Annual Eclipse The second week of April marked the beginning of Eclipse at USCGA! The Asian Pacific American Council (APAC) was so honored to have four Asian-American Flag Officers speak at their APAC panel: RADM Vojvodich, RADM Sugimoto, RADM Ore, and RADM Barata. The weekend was full of lessons and stories. APAC also performed in the Eclipse Talent Show! They put on a dance routine comprised of Tahitian Dance, Hula (taught by our very own alaka`i, Cadet Moani Farias), Korean Fan Dance, and K-pop! May 27 (Sat): The National Museum of American Indian (NMAI) presents the Native American Veterans Film Screening of “Corridor Four” (80 min.), which challenges the image of the American hero in a heartfelt portrait of 9/11 first responder and Native Hawaiian, Isaac Ho‘opi‘i, as he works to put the traumatic experience behind him through the support of his family and love of music. A discussion with Isaac will follow the film. The program will close with a performance by his Hawaiian musical group, The Aloha Boys. FREE. |

This summer's hybrid WLP series brings together AANHPI community members from all areas of public service backgrounds from across the country. Through conversations with community advocates and public service leaders, attendees can learn about various ways to become involved in the public sector and be inspired to make a change and uplift the voices of AANHPI communities.
