In other developments, our newly sworn-in President Jenny Higginbotham's unexpected work conflicts prompted her to resign, and per our by-laws, the vice-president stepped into the role. "This resignation comes with heavy heart and disappointment as I am passionate about education for women in this community. Because of work conflicts that have become evident as County Judge, I have decided to step down as President and devote my attention to the judiciary and the community. After studying the core values of the ABWA, I believe this decision is the best to ensure the momentum of our chapter's success. I will remain an active member of the Chapter, serving on the mentorship and professional development committees," said Judge Higginbotham. In moving from Vice President to President, Lisa Rosenblum said, "While this transition comes unexpectedly, I embrace the opportunity to serve the chapter and its members. My main focus will be on teamwork--leveraging our collective knowledge, talent, and energy to nurture our sisterhood, build each other up, and help the chapter run more effectively. The board has created a chapter vision and strategy to guide our activities, and we've incorporated your feedback in planning an exciting year that promises professional and personal growth. I encourage your ideas for improvement and look forward to your participation. Your Board as of September 13, 2022 President: LISA ROSENBLUM -lisa.s.rosenblum@gmail.com Vice-President: CHERIE NIKOSEY-cherieswellness@gmail.com Treasurer: PATRICIA NUZZO - nuzzopatricia@gmail.com Secretary: BARBARA GEIGER - sprogen12@gmail.com |

Some Learning and sharing from our September meeting. A mighty group of members and guests shared their business and personal and professional personas, networked, laughed, and learned at our September 11 meeting. Our speaker, KIM HOLWELL, shared her experience building and motivating teams and her lessons learned for getting individuals to work together and achieve peak performance. The Owner of the highly successful retail outlets in Fernandina Beach--Twisted Sisters and Olive Amelia, Kim shared her poignant and humorous route to becoming a retailer. She shared the four "Ps" of marketing--product, price, place, and promotion. Her interactive presentation also allowed attendees to self-assess their personality type. We laughed as we determined if we were a lion, otter, Golden Retriever, or beaver. Kim described the lion as a powerful driver and a leader; and an otter as popular and expressive. She shared that the Golden Retriever is a peaceful, amiable type, looking for everyone to get along. Kim said the beaver is analytical and works toward perfection. We learned that we could shift between types depending on situations and the importance of needing a good mix of personalities to form a successful team. Kim also brought several door prizes. Thank you, Kim, for the fun and the knowledge. Visit her at Visit her at https://twistedsistersamelia.com/ |

Dawn Lunt gave an update on the ABWA national conference that she and Shelley Hirsch attended. Held at the Denver (Colorado) Marriott in early September, Dawn spoke of the extensive networking, dynamic speakers, and professional development opportunities she experienced. Among other announcements, she reported that the Eight Flags Chapter once again earned the "striving level" in ABWA's Best Practices program. |

Kudos to member Shelley Hirsch! A past Eight Flags Chapter President (2019-2021), who joined ABWA in 2009, Shelley was named Woman of the Year in 2019. She recently earned the KU MBA Essentials Certificate as a member benefit of ABWA while in Colorado. |

ABWA National partners with distinguished Universities to offer relevant academic advancement, a core component of ABWA's Mission that speaks to the pillars of education and leadership development. Each year, members who attend the ABWA National Women's Leadership Conference have the opportunity to earn credits towards this "mini-MBA" program. This certificate is for study completed in the Master of Business Administration program offered by the University of Kansas School of Business. Shelley said, "The caliber of learning from ABWA's partner Universities teaches dynamic skillsets and more! I am very pleased to have completed this program." Your ABWA Eight Flags Sisters are proud of you, Shelley! |
