Smooth

  1. Like slightly acidic soil
  2. Need relief from the afternoon sun
  3. Bloom on new wood so prune back in late winter
  4. Ball shapes flowers 6-12 inches across
  5. Great for cut arrangements and dried flowers

Macrophylla

  1. Prefers shaded well, drained soil
  2. Commonly called Mophead or Lacecap Hydrangea
  3. Flower colors vary depending on the acidity of the soil…Blue=more acidic
  4. Blooms on old wood-prune after blooming in late August
  5. Generally 6 feet tall
  6. Pictured is Cherry Explosion

OakLeaf

  1. Deciduous, rounded shrub
  2. Oak shaped leaves 4 to 12 inches wide
  3. Irregular shaped plant
  4. Leaves change color late season
  5. Partial shade
  6. Pictured is Gatsby Moon

Mountain

  1. Small growing variety
  2. Bloom colors varies with soil acidity
  3. Typically 2 to 4 feet tall and wide
  4. Only remove dead wood-do not ever cut back
  5. Bloom on old and new wood
  6. Pictured is Tuff Stuff Ahha

Panicle

  1. Rapid growing, upright specimen
  2. Most cold hardy species
  3. Blooms on new wood-cut back late Winter, early Spring
  4. Can get to 15 feet tall depending on variety
  5. Can take sun in moist soils

Cascade

  1. Unique growth habit with trailing stems
  2. Lacecap bloom clusters
  3. Fairytale Bride is the only Cascade Hydrangea available
  4. Equally tall as wide
  5. Filtered light is best
