Coronasomnia: Is The Covid-19 Pandemic Affecting Your Sleep? |

Since March 2020, and the whirlwind of Covid-19 Pandemic, there has been a shift in life’s routine patterns. One of those changes due to the pandemic is a good night’s sleep. This sleep disturbance is called “Coronasomia” the name given by a doctor. According to Healthline, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the impact of stress is one of the leading causes of “No Sleep” Sleep Deprivation leads to challenges with controlling thoughts and emotions. Unfortunately many people have experienced a roller-coaster of sleep patterns. An increasing number of people have been reporting sleep disturbances since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Pharmaceutical sleep prescriptions have increased 20 percent over the last year. Taking steps to improve sleep habits is important for not just COVID-19 prevention, but for overall health and wellness.
The Pandemic Way of Life: is our “New Normal” Sleep is not the only factor society has had to encounter with Covid-19 Pandemic. The impact of conflicting schedules, unemployment, homeschooling children, financial loss, and virtual fatigue are factors to the lack of sleep. - Take a break from alcohol.
- Cut out caffeine. Especially after 2 p.m., as this can make it harder to fall asleep.
Try a weighted blanket. Setting boundaries on electronic usage. Turn off all devices 1 hour before bedtime. Utilize a relaxing pre-sleep ritual (e.g., hot bath, soft music, and reading) Set aside the hour before bedtime as “me time.” Minimize conversations with family or calls during that hour. Find new coping strategies, hobbies, and support engagement. “Optimizing control over stress will support sleep optimization,” she explained. Set a structured daytime schedule to support a consistent bedtime and wake time. Use phone reminders to encourage staying on track with your daytime schedule.

After a year of uncertainty in 2020’s Covid-19 Pandemic, the new wave of virtual teaching, and the new Covid-19 Traditional Classroom setting, many teachers are opting to quit the profession or retire. In the article, “More teachers plan to quit as Covid stress overwhelms educators” by Jessica Dickler she explains, “ After nearly a year of struggling to meet the demands of teaching during the coronavirus crisis, many educators say they are ready to switch careers or retire.” With a host of meetings, conversations, and debates about student learning, one of the biggest factors to Educational learning is the well-being of the teacher. |

Dickler states "The challenges of teaching in-person or online have stretched educators to their limits."After nearly a full year of either putting themselves at risk in a classroom or struggling to reach students remotely, many now say they may change careers or simply quit. |

A Message from the Founder of DoV |

The Covid-19 Pandemic has put a shift into my life, and I have rediscovered “Hidden Treasures” within myself. With being quarantined for a year, I have been able to rebirth DoV Club, and finish my Masters in Educational Counseling. I was so busy being busy I forgot my talented abilities I enjoyed as a child. I have love for singing and playing the piano. I so appreciate being able to play those ivory keys again! In 2020, the Pandemic has been a whirlwind of lost and our lives will be forever changed. Yet for me, the Covid-19 Pandemic and being quarantined has been bittersweet. Being isolated due to the pandemic, I was able to find my silver lining and or my rainbow in the sky with writing. |

I’ve always enjoyed writing stories and reading articles thus came the DoV Monthly Newsletters. I have rediscovered me and have embraced what was misplaced was never lost. Spring is a season of rebirth, renew, and recharge. With that being said, “I’m Springing Forward.”🌸 |
