Then came July like three o'clock in the afternoon, hot and listless and miserable
—Allie Ray
July has been HOT. Really hot. So when looking for a quote for July I found this one and it made me laugh because it took me by surprise. Often, quotes are uplifting and occasionally saccharine. They're not usually depressing. However, I have a bittersweet personality and enjoy the unexpectedly morose. Maybe it's my English heritage, maybe I was born with it.
Anyway... the slightly cynical tone continues with my blog this month. One of the hardest things about working in marketing is how much it is misunderstood and mistrusted as an industry. And there is a lot of smoke and mirrors around, so the mistrust is often warranted. I came to marketing via PR, and started working in PR because I thought it would be more varied than journalism. I feel like I've always had a slight outsider's perspective to the world of marketing and I think this helps me see it a bit more clearly from a business owner's perspective.

Another month, another mountain! This one also features a lake, because that's what you need when it's really hot: a cool, refreshing mountain lake. I don't really swim in mountain lakes often any more. I used to. I used to jump into pretty much any body of water. I also made myself sick doing that once so nowadays I'm a big more discerning about what I jump into.
Mountain lakes are unfortunately one of the only places in Colorado where you know you're going to find flying bugs that bite and I get bitten by basically everything out there. So again, this is a bittersweet experience for me.
