The speaker for our March 14th meeting will be Marc Brown. Marc will talk about his experiences building Fine Woodworking's "The Coolest Woodworking Cutting Board Ever?" (March 2013, https://www.finewoodworking.com/2013/03/26/the-coolest-cutting-board-ever). He will talk through the steps required to build the board and will provide a slew of tips learned the hard way. Marc recently relocated from Silicon Valley to Anchorage to be close to his granddaughters. After a career in high tech, Marc began taking woodworking classes at the local adult schools, and has been teaching woodworking at the Palo Alto Adult School for the past 7 years. ARTISTRY IN WOOD. If you haven’t visited this years’ AIW you are really missing an awesome exhibit. It’s in the Metro Mall. We have over 150 entries from carvers, scrollers, turners and woodworkers. In addition, the AK Woodturning Association has lathes set up at the rear of our space and members have been doing live demos. Joe Paluba has been demoing scroll sawing and Dohn Wood has demoed using hand tools. Several carvers have been doing demonstrations on caricatures and diamond willow. THIS EVENT RUNS FROM FEBRUARY 18TH TO MARCH 20TH and is open every day except Tues and Weds. from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. WE still do NEED VOLUNTEERS TO SET UP/TAKE DOWN AND TO WORK THE DESKS. SEE INFORMATION PROVIDED ABOVE. Some of the Artistry in Wood Entries and Demonstrations |

Carvers Attention all Carvers! Artistry in Wood is underway. If you haven’t stopped by you should come say hello to all your fellow carvers and woodworkers. If you entered some of your works come see your ribbons. And as always if you have a few hours to spare come meet the public and spell those that have been there nearly every day. A big thanks to all who helped this show happen. And please set aside March 19 to help take down. We all will meet there at noon to begin that process of taking down and storing all our materials till next year. Carving Seminar. We have had some passionate people request that we hold our spring carving seminar. Currently we have tentatively set Saturday, April 15 as the date to hold the seminar. In order for this to happen we need carvers to take the classes and instructors to help others. If we don’t get enough interest we will cancel. If you are at Artistry there is a sign up sheet. I am off to work at Artistry now so hope to see you soon. Gino Del Frate |
