Hello!
On Wednesday March 8th No One Told Me will be screening in the biggest venue yet at Cinema Amstelveen. It is very surreal that this film I put together during the pandemic with just a handful of people (me mostly working at a little desk in my bedroom) is now spreading it's wings and starting to fly.
After the screening in Amstelveen there will be a panel conversation with Marjan de Jong, writer of the book Omarm de kraamtijd (Embrace the postpartum time), Midwife Dorine ten Doeschot and coach Hannah Bellinx. These conversations are the thing I look forward to most. Here is something I wrote on Instagram after the last screening in Brunswick, Maine that explains why.
"The conversation after the screening was the closest thing I’ve experienced to intergenerational learning in community. A room with parents, grandparents, providers and people who do not have kids. Sharing experiences, sharing what’s hard, what’s beautiful and how we can care for new mothers during the postpartum time. Rage, grief, fear, expectations and an often disappointing reality were discussed. Doubting our ability to be a good mother. How hard it can be to accept help. Listening to our gut feelings and how hard it can be to say those things out loud because we don’t want to offend anyone. It’s all so common and yet many new mothers experience these things in isolation, wondering what is wrong with them. My most precious moments were the mothers who were 4 months and 5 months postpartum who shared how the film brought back some raw and relatable moments. Tears were close, emotions surfaced. Beautiful. Heartfelt. Vulnerable."
I hope to create a similar atmosphere at the screening in Amstelveen!

PS. Here is an article about me and how this film came about.
It's written in Dutch but google translate does a pretty good job at translating these days.
