Curious to learn more about our newly installed Houston Alumnae Chapter President Ivonne Delgado?
Ivonne didn't join AXiD in the most traditional way... at Florida International University, Ivonne was a member of a local sorority, XI DELTA, that wished to go national. Two sororities interviewed with Ivonne and her 18 sisters and found they all "just clicked" with Alpha Xi Delta. It was an easy transition from Xi Delta since all they had to do was add ALPHA and in 1993, Xi Delta officially transformed into Alpha Xi Delta-Theta Xi Chapter. It was at that moment Ivonne's life of service began to our sorority.
From Social Chair and Rush Chair while on campus to Houston's Alumnae VP, Convention Delegate, HAPA Delegate and now Chapter President. Representing AXiD, her involvement with HAPA includes service as Recording Secretary, Treasurer, now First Vice President en route to the Presidency next year.
Ivonne stays committed to service to the sorority because she truly believes “sisterhood is forever!” She has never lost touch with her sisters from Theta Xi and the first thing she did when moving to Houston was to connect with the Alumnae Association.
For Ivonne, the ability to give back always fills her heart with joy! As Alpha Xi Delta’s philanthropy transitioned from AXiD Chooses Children as an undergraduate to Autism Speaks as an alumnae so has Ivonne’s commitment to service. Ivonne serves as a volunteer for Autism Speaks Houston including being Registration Chair for the Autism Speaks Houston Walk, volunteering at the Autism Speaks Houston 5K Run/1K Walk and her most rewarding moment, Event Chair for Autism Speaks Chef Gala Houston which raised an impressive $150,000 in its inaugural year!
COVID19 has meant a unique start to Ivonne's presidency. Board meetings have gone virtual, in person events canceled, our Executive Board Retreat will be virtual and we launched our first virtual Sisterhood Nightcap on Zoom.
What else has COVID19 taught Ivonne? She has learned boredom doesn't suit her, but spending all day in pajamas or yoga pants does! She has spent some of the most recent weeks at home reading. The last good book she read was The Next Person You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom, but to Ivonne, any book written by Mitch Albom is a must read and highly recommends!
We're all looking forward to the times when we can gather together in sisterhood safely again, but when we do, be sure and ask Ivonne about Puppy Love...
