Empowering Parents: Open-Ended Learning Materials Workshop

We are excited to share the success of our recent parent workshop focused on open-ended materials and play. As we read through the reflections provided by parents, it is heartening to observe a positive transformation in their perspectives. The workshop has proven instrumental in shifting parental thinking about the significance of open-ended materials in nurturing the creativity and imagination of children. It's inspiring to witness the growing awareness among parents regarding the influential role such materials play in fostering a rich and dynamic learning environment. We look forward to continuing these engaging discussions and empowering parents to actively support their children's development through open-ended play.

An IB School Visit to DocStu :

IB ABC Schools

In December, a team from an IB school in Ankara, led by the PYP coordinator - Pınar Demirel, an administrative team and PYP educators, paid a visit to Documentation Studio Turkiye. The purpose of the visit was to gain insights into DocStu's objectives and documentation processes. Our colleagues had the opportunity to explore the "Making Learning Visible" exhibition, engaging in conversations, and actively participating in playful learning invitations, aligning with IB essential attributes. The learning session emphasized intentional planning, observation, and documentation. We express our gratitude to the IB ABC schools for their keen interest in promoting visible learning and their active participation in this enriching experience.

Educator's Spotlight

Dylan Gromen

Dylan Gromen serves as a first-grade educator and the science subject coordinator at Bilkent Laboratory and International School. In this interview, he delves into his approach to unpacking the central idea: "Exploring family histories helps us make connections between the past and present" with his students. Within this framework, he and his students explore the concepts of change and perspective using a transdisciplinary learning approach. Through this method, his students are evolving into open-ended and reflective learners.

For those keen to explore further into Dylan's learning wall experience and pose questions directly, you can contact him at dylan.gromen@blisankara.org
