Important updates & opportunities for the success of the Florida Right to Clean Water campaign: |

Quite a bit has happened recently, so let's celebrate, sort through the excitement and focus on what needs to be done and by when. |

The uptick in the petitioning effort has been impressive as well! All over the state, ambassadors and supporting organizations have been out there where the people are, collecting and processing signed petitions. We will likely not be achieving our very high (self-imposed) goal of 223k by March 1st, but we're definitely on our way. Stay tuned for a press event on March 2nd, 6pm, which will provide an update on where we are, where we need to go. If you'd like to help, register here to join in the united effort: |

Got Questions? We Have Answers. |

Our Friday FAQs have so far been very helpful to those who have had concerns about what they thought (or might have heard) about issues with the initiative. We welcome all questions to these Ask Me Anything events. Maya van Rossum of Green Amendments for the Generations will be a guest legal expert for our remaining events (Friday, Feb 17th and 24th), so the scope of inquiry can open up to how green amendments like ours have succeeded in other states! | | |

We know funds are limited these days for so many people, which is why you haven't seen us focus on this in our messaging to our grassroots supporters. We wholly appreciate the donations we've been receiving throughout, as it has sustained our ability to run a "frugal" campaign thus far. For the next two weeks, however, this is an important decision point for ALL of us to tackle: |
|
|
There are three tiers of campaigning power we could have, based on funds: Total grassroots: For the final 10 months we have to get enough verified petitions (until Nov 30th), we could continue to run the campaign on $50,000. This would include printing and shipping petitions around the state, necessary materials for petitioning events (shirts, signs, handouts and booth fees) and social media posts. Success will directly depend on the time, energy and organizing initiative of volunteers and supporting organizations themselves...and would be a beautiful, historic occasion. Targeted mailing: In addition to the above, should we reach approximately $650,000, we would be able to mail out 1-5 blank petitions and a self-addressed, stamped envelop to help ensure we make our goals. This would help complement the all-volunteer effort to "round out" our reach where we need to get signatures. Paid petitioning: Should there be interest and support from bigger donors in the range of about $15.5 million ($500k by March), we could launch the paid petitioning campaign we'd need for certain success. If we can find the funds by March and begin operations by April, we're pretty certain we'll qualify for the 2024 ballot.
As you can tell, the legislative constraints placed on citizens' initiatives make it incredibly difficult and/or very expensive, but we believe that this is something that Florida wants and needs -- across the board, beyond our divisions, for present and future generations.
