Aquarius is one of the oldest constellations in the heavens, dating as far back as Babylonian times. According to Greek Mythology, Aquarius is connected to the lovely Ganymede, son of the Trojan King Tros, who was taken by Zeus to become the cupbearer of the gods on Mt. Olympus.

In the northern hemisphere, our distinctively masculine Aquarius is found smack dab in the middle of winter - the last of the four fixed signs before we cycle back to the beginning with Aries. To demonstrate the stability of fixed energy, think of this time frame and how enduring and relentless winter weather can be (or the heat of summer in the southern hemisphere).

The symbol for Aquarius is the Water Bearer, the most human of the zodiac. Because of this, he is often mistaken for a water sign, but is actually ruled by air. Two wavy lines comprise the Aquarius glyph demonstrating water in motion when powered by wind (air). The water which Aquarius pours out freely and equally to all, represents truth and wisdom. As water is the elixir of life, truth and wisdom is the elixir of Spirit.

“Our society finds truth too strong a medicine to digest undiluted.

In its purest form, truth is not a polite tap on the shoulder.

It is a howling reproach.”

– Ted Koppel, Broadcast Journalist, News Anchor, Activist & Aquarius

A Pinch of Sage

for January 19 - 26, 2022

Most have heard the phrase: “cycle of life”. Some see it as linear i.e., you live, and then you die. Others see it more cyclical as in birth, death, and rebirth. Life spins within cycles, from astronomical and planetary to agricultural and biological. The circle itself is a most magical symbol, representing the cosmos unifying both matter and Spirit.

These days, people are disheartened, and I hear statements like “having come full circle” or doing “nothing but spinning my wheels”. This suggests a return to the starting point. But a circle has no beginning and no end. Although it may seem as if we are on a hamster wheel, we are not the same. We continue to learn, to grow, to evolve; even though it may not seem that way at the time.

If you’re feeling as if you’re spiraling, yet going nowhere fast, stop.

Pause.

You are not in the same place as when you started. If you look closely, you’ll see you’re at a different vantage point. Look at things from a new perspective. Find the kernels of wisdom within the situation. There is always something to gain, something to be grateful for. And when you find that golden nugget, commemorate the occasion. Look around you, for I’m certain you’re not alone in your endeavours. Who keeps you sane in this crazy time? Who walks beside you? Celebrate together, for this too shall pass.
