WHAT A YEAR!

It has been a whirl wind year for the team at Woven Threads, with the remainder of the series Woven Threads - Stories from Within nearing completion, we have had the fortune of meeting incredibly brave people wanting to share their stories to help others.

Parliament House

We were invited by Andrew Wallace MP to travelled to Canberra in early June, to showcase Woven Threads to the "The Friends of Mental Health". Andrew is the co-chair along with Senator Deborah O'Neil and Senator Rachel Siewert. It was a wonderful opportunity to share what we are working on with a variety of members of parliament. It was great to see everyone working together and problem solving for the mental health of Australians.

We had several of the Woven Threads team at the event, which was great; Hannah the subject of our eating disorder episodes which screened on the night was present and Mellissa Smith the indigenous artist on our indigenous episode which also screened was there, seeing the film for the first time on her country, Ngunnawal country; It was also great to have Fred El Harris (motion graphics artist) and Pete Jeffers (business manager) there as well.

Queensland News

We did make it Queensland and were able to meet with several government members as well as Mark and Gaye Forbes the founders of endED and House of Hope on the Sunshine Coast. They have also extended their charity to start the endED espresso bar to help people with eating disorders and other mental health challenges the opportunity to re-join the work force. While we were there, we met the wonderful Hannah whose story is now available for viewing on Pedestrian TV.

Victoria

It has been a great opportunity to connect with Victorians and understand some of their challenges during the COVID pandemic. We have met with several organisations working on the ground to support locals and MPs to discuss challenges faced by members of their electorates and opportunities that may be there to share stories from local electorates.
