Los Angeles Rodeo Ban Progress Update

𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 is extremely proud to announce the groundbreaking 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Unprecedented times call for new alliances. We, as members and custodians of the western lifestyle, are coming together to protect the events, livelihoods and way of life we all hold dear.  Western Justice has been working diligently these past few months to gather and unify organizations that represent all aspects of our diverse industry to present a powerful and unified voice.

There has long been a need for this type of industry unification, and our memberships continue to grow.  This Coalition brings together national and regional organizations from across the country. Many cultures are represented showing the true diversity that’s always been evident in our western lifestyle family.

We all want to preserve our beloved collective heritage.

The current proposed ban of rodeo and “rodeo-like” events in Los Angeles was the catalyst that initiated this historic Coalition and is the issue members are currently focused on. However, it is only one battle in the war to save our lifestyles and livelihoods. It is paramount that we meet this ban and other assaults on our way of life head-on by working together. We cannot allow them to set a precedent that will grow to other parts of the country.

At present, members of our Coalition have met with 11 of the 15 LA City Council Members to respectfully educate them about the great care and treatment of rodeo animals, the cultural insensitivity of this unnecessary legislation, and the significant negative economic impact it will cause in LA. Additional meetings are continuing.

Council members have been very receptive to learning the truth about rodeos, livestock welfare, the heritage behind these events and the economic impact they bring.  They have engaged in frank discussions about how detrimental this ban could be for the city of LA and several groups that operate events there including the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, Charro groups, and the PBR.

As we continue to work to protect rodeos and other horse industry events, there are several ways you can do your part.

You have already taken the first important step by becoming a member of Western Justice. Our individual membership numbers grow each day, because owners, breeders, and competitors, like you, are seeing the threats ahead and the dangerous road legislation is headed down.

Along with encouraging like-minded friends and family to also become individual members, please learn more about the Western Sports Industry Coalition and encourage organizations you associate with to join.  We’d also encourage you to make your voice heard in opposing the LA ordinance.
