Rick Gates: Current Political Polls are Wrong
(Ocasomedia) New York, Oct. 12th, 2020 New York City
Former Trump Campaign Deputy Chairman Rick Gates stated yesterday on PBS NewsHour that current polling numbers are wrong, and that it is still far too early to determine the outcome of the presidential contest in November. As Americans learned in 2016, the polls were incorrect due to what became known as the “Trump Factor”, a significant pool of voters across the U.S. who indicated that they would not vote for Donald Trump, but in reality, did. Gates was interviewed by PBS correspondent William Brangham and when asked if what happened, according to 2016 political analysts, about the impact of anti-Trump sentiment causing polls to be skewed downward for Trump, is happening again in 2020 he stated:
"Absolutely...If I can share with the American public one thing, right now the polls are wrong. Donald Trump is actually in a better place, in several key states, including Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Florida specifically, than he was in 2016...I think that number that I mention in my book that I call the 'Trump Factor´ maybe even higher this election."

Gates, author of the newly published book WICKED GAME: AN INSIDER’S STORY ON HOW TRUMP WON, MUELLER FAILED, AND AMERICA LOST, further commented after the interview that in 2020 there are other factors at play:
"The election in 2020 has significant differences that did not exist in 2016. Early voter registration and absentee ballots have increased dramatically due to the coronavirus and the fear of physically going to polling stations. The nomination of a Supreme Court Justice prior to the election has galvanized voters on both sides of the political aisle. The current Trump Administration is going to be assessed on its handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the state of the economy. The stakes in this political race could not be clearer, and both President Trump and Joe Biden have very divergent visions of where to lead America."

“Trump can win the 2020 election,” Gates stated, “but he must focus his message on the economy and show that another four years of a Trump Administration will expand it further. One of President Trump’s greatest assets are his instincts. It is what got him elected. His messages on many key issues resonated with demographically diverse voters. He has shown his resolve to lead by appointing Amy Coney Barrett right before the election. Traditionally, career politicians would have avoided this tough political decision, but President Trump is elected for four years. Not three and a half. His instincts were right on this issue.”
